Purdue (19-1, 6-0 road, 8-1 Big Ten) is on a six-game winning streak after holding off Maryland 58-55 on Sunday at home. It is the best start in school history for the Boilermakers, who are the fifth Big Ten team to be 19-1 since 2000.

Purdue Betting Trends

Zach Edey is a heavy -450 favorite in the Wooden Award odds. The junior center was a big reason why Purdue was able to stave off Maryland’s upset bid Sunday.

Edey had 24 points and 16 assists for his 16th double-double of the season and 12th game of 20-plus points. Purdue needed every one of those points on a day when it shot 38.5% (20 of 52) overall and made just 2 of 13 (15.4%) of their three-point attempts.

Purdue also committed 15 turnovers and Edey had five of them. However, the Boilermakers held Maryland to 22 of 59 (37.3%) overall and 3 of 21 (14.3%) from beyond the arc while outrebounding the Terrapins 40-30.

Purdue led 35-21 at halftime but shot 26.9% in the second half. Freshman guard Braden Smith helped seal the victory by making two free throws with 3.9 seconds left.

Edey leads the Big Ten in scoring (21.5), rebounding (13.2) and field goal shooting (61.4%) and is second in blocked shots (2.3). He is just one of two players with a double-figure scoring average in Purdue’s balanced offense.

Freshman guard Fletcher Loyer is averaging 12.8 points a game. He was the Gatorade Indiana High School Player of the Year last season.

Purdue is shooting 76.7% from the foul line, which ranks 21st nationally.

Purdue is playing exceptionally well on the defensive end. The Boilermakers are 11th in points allowed (59.8), 19th in three-point defense (29.1%) and 30th in field goal defense (39.7%).

No Purdue opponent has scored more than 70 points in a game this season. The Boilermakers have allowed 55 points or less in three of their last four games.

Michigan Betting Trends

Michigan is likely to be without freshman guard Jett Howard, its second-leading scorer, because of a sprained left ankle. He is averaging 14.6 points a game.

The youngest son of Wolverines coach Juwan Howard was injured in the first half of Sunday’s win over Minnesota. He was seen in a walking boot following the game.

Junior center Hunter Dickinson helped Michigan withstand the loss of Jett Howard. Dickinson had 23 points and nine rebounds, finishing only one board short of a fourth consecutive double-double while registering his seventh 20-point effort of the season.

Dickinson is fourth in the conference in scoring (18.1), rebounding (8.9) and blocked shots (1.7) while ranking fifth with a 57.1 field goal percentage.

Sophomore guard Kobe Bufkin finished with 12 points, right in line with his season average of 12.1.

Despite playing with an injured foot, freshman guard Dug McDaniel contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Michigan won despite turning the ball over 15 times, shooting 36.7% (22 of 60) from the field and connecting on just 2 of 14 (14.3%) three-point tries.

Reserve junior guard Jace Howard, son of Juwan and brother of Jett, is questionable after sitting out the last two games because of a concussion. Jace Howard has a 1.3 scoring average.

Purdue vs Michigan Prediction

Michigan has won six of the last seven games in the series, including routing Purdue 82-58 in Ann Arbor late last season. Dickinson had a game-high 22 points.

It is hard to imagine this game turning out that one, though. Laying the points with Purdue is the way to go as it rebounds from a bad outing Sunday.

Pick: Purdue -5.5 (-104)

Season record: 21-17 (+2.3 units) ATS, 1-6 (-4.5 units) ML
