As far as the A-10 Tournament odds, Richmond entered at +1000 with Indiana at +350.

Chris Mooney’s team got a game-high 18 points from senior forward Grant Golden in four-point victory over the Flyers to move on. Leading scorer Tyler Burton chipped in 16 points and eighty boards in the win.

Meantime, Bob McKillop saw Foster Loyer put up a game-high 21 points in a 15-point decision over the Billikens — while three other players put up double-digits.

Richmond Owns Davidson in Recent History

The Wildcats got past the Spiders 87-84 in the team’s only meeting during the 2021-22 season on Jan. 14, but Mooney’s club has won seven of the last 10 matchups between the two programs overall. That game two months could have gone either way.

That narrow result was part of a 15-game win streak in the middle of the season for Davidson that included a victory over then-No. 10 Alabama.

As for the Spiders, Jacob Gilyard put up a team-high 28 points in the heartbreaking defeat, while Nick Sherrod finished with 20 off the bench. Burton, Golden and Gilyard are the team’s double-figure scorers.

Richmond — the 85th-rated team in Division I according to KenPom — are especially adept at forcing opponents into mistakes. The Spiders weave foes into their web to the tune of owning a 9th-best offensive turnover percentage and also a 9th-best offensive non-steal turnover percentage.

They also went 0-3 against VCU and Dayton during the regular season — but avenged those losses in nation’s capital, taking down the Rams and Flyers to play for an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

Davidson Only 7-7 Against The Spread in Last 14

Including a 70-68 loss to VCU on Jan. 26 — that snapped that long win streak — the Wildcats have gone 11-3 straight up. But McKillop’s club is only 7-7 against the spread in that same timeframe. However, that number is significantly better recently — with Davidson going 6-1 against the number in the last seven. That includes the win over Saint Louis in the semis as 3.5-point favorites.

Four players score in double-digits for the regular season league champs (Loyer, Hyunjung Lee, Luka Brajkovic and Michael Jones) — and with VCU and Dayton both (thanks to Richmond) — the Wildcats are the clear favorites.

This is an elite team offensively, owning the 10th-best offensive adjusted efficiency rating according to KenPom. The group also rates in the top-10 in offensive effective field goal percentage (10th) and offensive 3-point field goal percentage (7th)

Richmond vs Davidson Prediction

Sharps clearly handicapped Davidson incorrectly. The Wildcats — who only lost three league games during the regular season — probably should have  had shorter odds when this tourney started.

Meantime, Richmond has had a great run thus far. But I think the Spiders’ luck runs out Sunday

Pick: Davidson -4 (-110)
