UMass Lowell Betting Analysis

Playing away from home was not good for the River Hawks last month. They didn’t win a single road game in January, going 0-4 for the month. That should change in a big way on Monday, when they take on Hartford.

The River Hawks defeated Hartford both times they played last year, putting up more than 80 points in both contests. Offensively, UMass Lowell continue to hoop with the best of them this season, averaging 77.9 points per game, ranking them 44th in the nation.

As a whole, the team shoots a collective 36.8% from beyond the arc, putting them in the top 50 of all Division I squads. In their most recent game, they scored plenty of buckets, putting up a 90 spot in a 29 point victory over the NJIT Highlanders.

UMass Lowell has hit the over 54.5% of the time this season, but much more frequently as of late, going above the betting line in 70% of their previous 10 contests.

Hartford Hawks Betting Outlook

As one of two independent squads in Division I basketball, it’s been tough sledding for Hartford this year. Their record sits at 5-18, significantly hampered by an 0-10 road mark. Thankfully for the Hawks, they’ll be at home for this affair, where they’ve won five of 12 games.

According to KenPom, this is one of the very worst college basketball programs this campaign. Overall, they are ranked 361st out of 363 teams, so it’s no wonder they are such huge ‘dogs in the college basketball odds.

They are in the bottom 2% in both adjusted defensive efficiency and offensive efficiency. Guard, Briggs McClain leads the squad with 15.8 points per game on 42.9% shooting. He’s scored in double figures in six of his last seven outings.

UMass Lowell vs Hartford Prediction

Big spreads can be tough at times. Hartford is one of the worst teams in the nation and might be the biggest longshot in the odds to win the NCAA tournament, if you could even find a sportsbook to take that bet.

This could be a 20 point blowout, that gets cut to 15 points in garbage time, so we’re going to avoid betting on the spread here. Instead, we’ve decided to focus on the over/under trends.

The River Hawks can score with the best of them, and won’t have any issue getting hoops against a Hartford defense that’s one of the worst in the country. The over is 5-1 in their last six games following a straight up win, while the over is also 5-1 in Hartford’s last six Monday games.

Considering UMass Lowell put up 90 on their own in their last contest, we’re feeling pretty confident in our prediction that this game surpasses 139.5 points in the college basketball odds on Monday.

Pick: Over 139.5 Points (-117)
