The odds to win the 2019 ACC title have been released, and it’s a two-horse race between the Clemson Tigers and their own feet.

Should bettors back the Tigers at short odds or look for a bigger payday with a longshot? Below, we examine the odds and the current state of affairs in the ACC.

Clemson to Take ACC … Unbeaten

The hype is real and you’re hearing this from an Alabama fan (don’t @ me).  Trevor Lawrence will be entering his first season as a starter and will be flanked with unbelievable talents, like running back Travis Etienne. Both Lawrence and Etienne are top contenders in the Heisman odds conversation.

At this price, this is a really good bet. Lawrence is one of the coolest, calmest QBs in CFB. I put him in with the likes of Jalen Hurts and Deshaun Watson. They are all methodical, thoughtful and humble.

I’m not saying it’s a lock because of the QB’s skill or demeanor, but when you have a cool head leading the way, the team feeds on that.

Even though Clemson lost a ton to the NFL, Dabo Swinney still has more than enough to dominate the conference. Besides their defensive line, they are headed into the summer with experience and a blue-chip recruiting class that puts them in National title contention right away.

The Tigers’ 2018 roster was made up of 61 percent blue-chippers. But there was still room for players like former walk-on receiver Hunter Renfrow, three former three-star offensive linemen who combined for 24 starts, barely-four-star safety Isaiah Simmons (who has delivered five-star play), three-star defensive tackle Nyles Pinckney, three-star linebacker Kendall Joseph, low-three-star safety K’Von Wallace, two-star linebacker J.D. Davis, and unrated safety Nolan Turner

But Clemson can’t take cat naps. They will have to remain focused on a weekly basis or Miami, Florida State and Syracuse will take advantage.

Orange You Interested in Seeing who Can Beat Clemson?

All puns aside, this program has accomplished a lot under Dino Barbers since 2015. Yes, they will be missing two starting linebackers and starting QB Eric Dungey, but there’s still much to like.

Last year’s linebacking unit leaned hard on seniors Ryan Guthrie and Kielan Whitner, who worked through some struggles to become reliable cogs in the defense. In 2019, Syracuse has experienced options such as Lakiem Williams and Andrew Armstrong. The Orange also have talented underclassmen in Juan Wallace, Mikel Jones, and Lee Kpogba.

Their offense is going to be a little more predictable with pocket-passing sophomore Tommy DeVito taking over from play-making Dungey. Slot receivers mesh well with DeVito and, if they can keep this tight, they are going to move up in the polls.

Florida Man Stalks Tiger

Florida State is a contender, according to oddsmakers, but we’re looking at a complete overhaul in Tallahassee and I hate being in theoretical territory.

Head coach Willie Taggart had a disastrous first season, going 5-7 and ending the school’s streak of 36 straight bowl appearances. The 2019 Seminoles are going to look a lot different, from the coaching staff to the roster.

[FSU s]ophomore Tamorrion Terry is one of the most dynamic receivers in the country — he averaged 21.3 yards per catch and hauled in eight touchdowns on 35 receptions.

James Blackman is the expected starting QB, and could really propel them forwards. Sophomore Tamorrion Terry is one of the most dynamic receivers in the country — he averaged 21.3 yards per catch and hauled in eight touchdowns on 35 receptions — and junior tailback Cam Akers broke FSU’s freshman rushing record in 2017.

Akers struggled behind a poor offensive line last season, and the improvement of that group likely will determine FSU’s overall success, at least on offense.

Hurricane Season

The Hurricanes have some interesting storylines to take into account.  Receiver Mike Harley is a prodigy and will make a stink come CFB season. He’s dynamic, tracks the ball, and when that ball is in his hands, he makes people miss.

With Tate Martell finally providing competent QB play, Miami’s offense will be one to reckon with.

With new JUCO commit Ousman Traore they have a heavy hitter on the o-line. At 6’3, 325 pounds,  he’ll take the inside line along with D.J. Scaife, Cleveland Reed, and Zalon’tae Hillery. The Canes’ line will be a force and should be considered to make a run at Clemson

Best Bet for the 2019 ACC Title

Both Florida State and Miami will be eager to take down Clemson, but the Tigers have the stronger army and the better general in Dabo Swinney. At a reasonably short -300, take Clemson.
