Wolverines Shutout Hawkeyes in Big 10 Title

The Michigan Wolverines dominated the Iowa Hawkeyes 26-0 on Saturday night to win their third consecutive Big Ten Championship. The game was played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Michigan’s suffocating defense held Iowa to just 155 total yards and forced three turnovers. Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy was efficient, completing 22 of 30 passes for 147 yards. The Wolverines didn’t need their passing game much, as the ground game and defense dominated this game.

With the win, Jim Harbaugh became the first Big Ten coach to win three consecutive outright conference championships. The Wolverines have now won 25 straight games against Big Ten opponents.

Michigan was expected to be the number one overall seed when the College Football Playoff bracket was announced Sunday, and that’s exactly what transpired. The Wolverines are headed to Pasadena to play in the Rose Bowl semifinal.

This was a statement win for Harbaugh’s squad against an Iowa team that features one of the best defenses in the country. But Michigan proved they are the class of the Big Ten once again and are the current favorites in the national championship odds.

Crimson Tide Stun Bulldogs

The No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide stunned the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs 27-24 on Saturday night to win the SEC Championship game in Atlanta. Alabama’s victory ended Georgia’s undefeated season and likely knocked the Bulldogs out of the College Football Playoff.

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe led the Tide offense, throwing for 237 yards and 2 touchdowns in the victory. His 15-yard TD pass to Jermaine Burton late in the second quarter gave Alabama a 17-7 halftime lead.

Coming into the game ranked 8th, the Tide likely need some help to make the 4-team playoff field. But a win over previously undefeated Georgia impressed the selection committee. Alabama earned the fourth seed in the final CFP rankings over undefeated Florida State.

Alabama vs Michigan Expected Line Movement

Both Michigan and Alabama had impressive wins in the conference title games, but it’s clear the Wolverines have been the more dominant team this season.

Jim Harbaugh’s team is undefeated and has been near the top of the CFP rankings all season, while the Crimson Tide have a loss and have been out of the rankings for most of the season.

We could see some public money come in on Alabama given their history and the Wolverines’ recent disappointing CFP appearances. However, the Michigan defense and run game are huge edges, especially with Bama’s Jase McLellan currently banged up.
