Fresh off an upset of #1 Clemson, #2 Notre Dame (7-0) hits the road in Week 11 to face unranked Boston College (5-3) on Saturday (Nov. 14, 3:30 pm EST).

The Fighting Irish’s thrilling OT victory last week extended their winning streak to 13 games, which is the longest active streak in the FBS.

Notre Dame is a massive 13.5-point favorite in a game that features a low total of just 49.5. The Irish dismantled the Eagles last season, winning 40-7 as a 20.5-point home favorite.

A Mismatch on Paper

Notre Dame’s upset of Clemson was the program’s first victory over a top ranked team since 1993, and it also snapped an 11-game losing streak versus a top-five opponent.

There’s no confusing BC as a legit contender, as they’re 0-3 versus ranked teams this season. The Eagles are the third lowest scoring team in the AAC Atlantic division, despite facing one of the easier schedules to date. Scoring certainly won’t come easy against the Irish, who is the conference’s stingiest defense.

They’re allowing just 14.6 points per outing, and have surrendered more than 14 points just twice through seven games. Yes, they allowed 40 points to Clemson last week, but the Tigers needed two-overtimes to get there, and with the game on the line Notre Dame’s defense came up with a decisive stop.

Irish Set-Up Well Offensively

On the other side of the ball, the Irish are in a good position for another major offensive output. Over the past month, the Eagles have surrendered 34 points to Clemson (minus Trevor Lawrence), 40 points to Virginia Tech, and 30 points to Pittsburgh.

Notre Dame is fresh off its most productive game of the season, racking up 47 points and a season-high 518 yards. Ian Book threw for over 300 yards for only the second time in 2020, while running back Kyren Williams produced three more rushing touchdowns.

The Sophomore now has six touchdowns over his past three outings, and is averaging 5.7 yards per carry and over 100 rushing yards per game. His individual matchup is very favorable on Saturday, as the Eagles are permitting 144.6 rushing yards and 1.6 rushing TD per contest to enemy running backs this season.

If you remove the Irish’s 12 point clunker against Louisville a month ago, they’re averaging 40.7 points per game this season, which would rank third in the ACC behind only Clemson and North Carolina.

Notre Dame All Day

It’s not a question of if Notre Dame is going to beat Boston College, it’s a question of by how many? Five of their seven victories in 2020 have come by at least 14 points, including both contests on the road.

The Irish have covered in two of their past three outings, and have a significant advantage in points per play and points allowed per play. Notre Dame averages 0.493 points per play on offense, compared to 0.361 for BC, while the Irish allow just 0.226 points per play on defense, compared to 0.352 for the Eagles.
