Ohio State Should Have Easy Time Saturday

After a 29-point road win, the Ohio State Buckeyes have to be feeling really good heading into Saturday’s home matchup against Iowa. The Hawkeyes do not scare many people offensively and average just 14.7 points per game (127th out of 131 teams). Honestly, Iowa faced Michigan and allowed 27 points but that was at home. The road is a different story.

Surprisingly, Ohio State is 3-2-1 ATS whereas the Hawkeyes are just 3-3.

The crazy part is that the spread could hit 30 points with the Over/Under being below 50. Ohio State has one of the better defenses in the country yielding just 15.7 points per game. That ranks 10th overall. To be fair, the Buckeyes have truly not been tested this season so far in six games. Ironically, Notre Dame was the one team that played well against them, and the Fighting Irish have fallen apart.

Coach Ryan Day has Penn State looming at Happy Valley and then Michigan at home just after Thanksgiving. Iowa will come down to how many points can the Buckeyes pile up. Ohio State has seen Miyan Williams establish himself with nearly 500 yards rushing and six touchdowns. Iowa may be in trouble as Williams is healthy after rushing for 290 yards in the past two games.

Before the bye week, Ohio State had an easy time at Lansing trouncing Michigan State by 29 points. Again, that was without Williams. Yes, Iowa gave up just 327 yards to Michigan, but the Wolverines played one of their more sloppy games of the season. The Buckeyes are rested.

Both teams make few mistakes. That plays to the advantage of Ohio State.

Iowa Trying To Keep The Game Close

Head coach Kirk Ferentz can see the opportunity for Iowa to slow down Ohio State as much as possible. The Hawkeyes rank third in the nation allowing 9.8 points per game, but have scored a season-high of just 27 points. Their average margin of victory overall is just 4.9 points per contest. Overall, they are 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in the conference. Their only conference win against Rutgers was the best effort of Iowa’s season.

Also, Iowa’s schedule is not easy because of the style of football played. For example, playing the Iowa State Cyclones should have been a sign of things to come. That 10-7 loss after winning 7-3 over South Dakota State should have been enough evidence that the Hawkeyes were in for a long season. The Iowa offense has a mere seven offensive touchdowns on the season. Not much more has to be said.

Can Iowa find a way not to get blown out? Could Spencer Petras have the game of his life? Kaleb Johnson has some breakaway speed running, but even then, the offense is beyond stifled. The defense, which does feature several potential All-Conference players, will have to score some points. Fatigue will be their biggest enemy.

Iowa’s projected NCAAF win total of 7.5 looks bleak. The under is increasingly likely.

Ohio State vs Iowa Prediction

This is the one game where the Over might be interesting.

Ohio State has the offensive firepower to unload on Iowa while impressing those who do the rankings.

Now, 29.5 points is too many for most teams, but Ohio State is capable.

Picks: Ohio State -29.5 (-110), Over 49.5 (-110)
