Ohio State Task At Hand Is Very Clear
Ohio State’s playoff aspirations are part of their focus as they head to Maryland on Saturday. However, the Buckeyes know they must be mindful of the Terrapins. Last year, Ohio State routed Maryland 66-17 and the Terrapins remember it very well. This game is expected to feature some cold weather and breezy conditions. That was not something C.J. Stroud enjoyed a couple of weeks ago against Northwestern.
Fortunately, the good news is the winds will not be howling and Maryland’s defense was gouged for more than 400 yards last week against Penn State.
#Buckeyes QB C.J. Stroud was named the Big Ten offensive player of the week and the Maxwell Award national player of the week after his 5 TD performance vs. Indiana.

Now, the thought process is that Maryland tries to seal up the running gaps that formed last week as Penn State ran for 243 yards. That will be the main focus as the Buckeyes are averaging 207 yards a game on the ground and 5.7 yards per carry. Again, expect the pass to open up for Stroud.
The key is how Miyan Williams looks. No one thought much of Williams at the start of the season but now he has nearly 800 yards and 13 touchdowns. Maryland has to watch for his game-breaking acceleration. Could Ohio State use him to catch passes as well?
Ohio State’s defense likely was watching the game tape from earlier in the season. That was when the Terrapins nearly upended Michigan. Taulia Tagovailoa looked nothing like his normal self last week. The Buckeyes’ front-seven will only exacerbate his misery this week.
The matter is all about keeping the eyes on the prize for Ohio State. If they play smart, the Buckeyes will be playing Michigan next week for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Ohio State stands at -650 to make that “Final Four”.
Maryland Wants To Just Keep It Close
Head coach Mike Locksley knows this game is quite the uphill battle. The Terrapins just want to keep this close at any and all costs. Maryland’s problem is how demoralized they looked against Penn State last week. Frankly, that game was not a contest.
First things first, the Terrapins need to keep the contest respectable. They were blown out by nearly 50 points at the hands of the Buckeyes last season.
Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa wants to get the ball out of his hand quicker and make quicker decisions.
Offense has to get back to the basics. For Tagovailoa, that includes “getting his footwork right” and identifying the front and coverages.

This game boils down to speed. If Tagovailoa and company can keep the tempo high, they might be able to frustrate the Buckeyes’ defense for a while. The problem is those footwork issues do not go away completely. Also, Ohio State’s front seven is even better than Penn State’s. Maryland needs to score early and as often as possible. Otherwise, the game will snowball on them again. If Ohio State smells apprehension, this game could easily be a blowout again.
Maryland’s preseason NCAAF win total of 6.0 already is a push. Fans in the Old Line State must be excited, as Maryland sports betting officially goes live this month.
Ohio State vs Maryland Prediction
Every expert has Ohio State winning the Big 10. Can Maryland pull off a miracle?
Honestly, Maryland can keep up in the first half. However, will they break down in the second half? The expectation is that Ohio State’s depth pulls away in the second half.
Maryland getting 27.5 is a lot, but Ohio State showed up with a clutch cover last week when they were favored by 39 and won by 42. Finally, keep an eye on the 64.5 Over. If that does not move much, consider the over.
