Ohio State has been a double digit spread favorite in every game this season, however the Buckeyes are just 2-3 against the spread. Bettors may have trouble backing Michigan State, even as 26.5-point home underdogs against a high octane offense like Ohio State.

Ohio State Betting Trends

As co-favorites to win the National Championship, Ohio State are in pole position entering week 6. Since a season opening victory over Notre Dame, nobody has come close to slowing down Ryan Day’s men. Even without top threat Jaxon Smith-Njigba, this offense has looked explosive.

Heisman favorite CJ Stroud leads a unit speckled with  elite playmakers at every position. Without both Smith-Njigba and top back Treveyon Henderson last week, this offense didn’t miss a beat. Junior running back Miyan Williams ran for five touchdowns and 189 yards as the Buckeyes breezed past Rutgers.

Beating Michigan State in East Lansing may prove to be a different type of challenge than Ohio State has faced so far in 2022. After all, the Spartans are the only team in the Big Ten to defeat the Buckeyes three times since 2011.

Despite that, the Ohio State vs Michigan State betting trends are hard to ignore. Ohio State is 5-0 against the spread in their last five meetings.

Michigan State Betting Trends

After a glorious start the season, Mel Tucker’s squad have fallen from grace. Following three consecutive defeats, the Spartan’s season is quickly slipping away. Back-to-back lifeless, in conference, losses to Minnesota and Maryland will hardly inspire confidence before facing the goliath that is Ohio State.

Junior quarterback Payton Thorne has looked pedestrian while throwing for just over 1100 yards and 8 touchdowns through four games. Moreover, the rest of the unit has hardly impressed and the Spartans rank just 93rd in the nation in total offense. That’s not going to cut it against a dominant Ohio State defense that currently surrenders just 153 yards passing per game.

To make matters worse, Michigan State have been an absolute liability on defense this year. So far on the season, this unit is allowing more than 411 yards of total offense per game. Stroud and the Buckeyes should have a field day on Saturday afternoon.

Ohio State vs Michigan State Pick

Although all the signs point to Ohio State winning this one by more than four scores, this match-up could prove tricky to handicap. Traditionally, the Spartans are a very good home team, and many ranked opponents have struggled to win in East Lansing. Recall that just last year, Michigan State defeated no. 24 Miami, no. 14 Pittsburgh, and no.6 Michigan.

Looking at the trends, four of Michigan State’s first give games have gone under to begin the year. Additionally, the under is 6-1 in the last seven meetings between these squads. Furthermore, the under has hit in each of the Spartans last four home games. According to our college football odds page, 88% of totals bets are coming in on the over. We’ll take the opposite approach here.

Pick: Ohio State vs Michigan State UNDER 64.5 (-110)
