TCU Must Dig In With Duggan

After a seven-point road win, the TCU Horned Frogs have to feel good and a little fortunate. Next up is an Oklahoma State Cowboys team looking to keep itself in the top ten and perhaps move closer to a Big-12 title. There is still a long way to go in the season and Max Duggan will have to play like he did against Oklahoma and Kansas for the Horned Frogs to come out with a victory.

Surprising to some, TCU is 4-0-1 ATS whereas the Cowboys are only 3-2.

The crazy part is that the spread moved into the 3.5 to 4-point range pretty quickly. TCU, under Sonny Dykes, is an offense-first team that tries to play downhill defensively. Oklahoma State is likely to give up 300+ yards passing. It is more of a question if Duggan and the TCU rushing attack can get downfield past the initial wave.

It is the rushing attack of TCU that frightens opponents. Now, TCU averages 231 yards a contest on 6.6 yards per carry. Kendre Miller has not been called on like a normal feature back but he is averaging nearly seven yards an attempt.

Last week against Kansas, holes dried up often and that is troubling against the Oklahoma State defense. TCU has some big offensive linemen but they got no push. Furthermore, Kansas, at times, was able to bring their secondary up to stifle the run. The Horned Frogs must recognize that faster otherwise the Cowboys will key on the pass.

Both teams make few mistakes. The team that forces the most probably wins this one Saturday.

Oklahoma State Has Chance To Make Statement

Head coach Mike Gundy can see the opportunity in front of his Oklahoma State team. The Cowboys ranked third in the nation averaging 46.4 points per game and did rack up 77 points in two conference wins. Their average margin of victory in those two games was 10.5 per contest. Spencer Sanders is a big reason why. His 18 combined touchdowns and only two interceptions should concern the Horned Frogs. Their average margin of victory in those two games was 10.5 per contest.

Also, Oklahoma State knows its schedule keeps getting more difficult. They need to keep winning. After TCU, they go up versus three more currently-ranked teams including a very dangerous Kansas State team coming off a bye.  The Cowboys do cover against the spread on the road as they have done so in four straight cases. Amazingly, they are 3-1 outright in that scenario.

Can Oklahoma State find a way to win in an environment that may not be quite as hostile as Oklahoma or Texas? The Cowboys do not commit a ton of penalties and their rush defense can make things challenging for TCU. Now, if they can slow down Max Duggan just enough on Saturday, the Cowboys could go to 6-0.

Oklahoma State’s projected NCAAF win total of 8.5 is starting to look like it may tip to the over.

Oklahoma State vs TCU Prediction

This is the one game where the Over comes razor-thin close.

Oklahoma State found a way to take down Baylor and could do much the same against TCU, who is not quite ready for this stage.

Four points is too many for TCU to cover. Take the Cowboys to cover the spread as road underdogs.

Pick: Oklahoma State +4 (-110)
