  • The San Jose State Spartans are 10.5-point away favorites over the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in their college football Week 9 game on Saturday, October 28
  • San Jose State is 3-5 straight up but 5-2-1 against the spread this season
  • Hawaii is a dismal 2-6 SU and 1-6-1 ATS

Recent games between the San Jose State Spartans (3-5, 5-2-1 ATS) and Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (2-6, 1-6-1 ATS) have proven to be a tale of two outcomes.

Moneyline bettors love the Spartans. That’s because San Jose State has won three in a row straight up against Hawaii. Spread bettors are partial to the Rainbow Warriors. Over that same three-game span, Hawaii is 2-1 against the spread.

For the second year in succession, oddsmakers are setting the Spartans as double-digit favorites. They’re the 10.5-point road chalk in the San Jose State vs Hawaii odds. Last year, San Jose State won 27-14 at home but failed to cover as 15.5-point favorites over Hawaii.

Digging a bit deeper into the San Diego State vs Hawaii odds, let’s offer you our prediction for this college football game between these Mountain West Conference rivals.

Hawaii is 7-6 SU in 13 home games against San Jose State since 2000. The Spartans are 4-1 ATS in their last five visits to face the Rainbow Warriors.

Kickoff for this game at Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on Saturday, October 28 is set for 11:59 pm ET. The broadcast is being carried by Spectrum Sports.

Spartans vs Rainbow Warriors Betting Splits

In the college football public betting splits, San Jose State is 4-1-1 ATS over the past six games. The Spartans are 4-2 ATS in the last six meetings with the Rainbow Warriors.

Hawaii is 1-8 SU in the school’s last nine Mountain West Conference games. Overall, the Rainbow Warriors are 0-5 ATS in their past five games.

The under has hit on the total in 14 of Hawaii’s last 17 conference games. However, the over was the winning play in seven of San Jose State’s last nine games.

Neither of these schools are given a betting line in the National Championship odds. The Spartans are set at odds of +3400 to win the Mountain West Conference title. Hawaii isn’t listed in this betting market.

Top Passer vs Top Pass Defense

Hawaii QB1 Brayden Schager helms the #13 passing offense in the NCAA. The Rainbow Warriors average 305.5 yards per game through the air. Schager has thrown for a touchdown in 17 straight games, the fourth-longest active streak in the nation.

Only Washington’s Michael Penix Jr, a top contender in the Heisman Trophy odds, has accounted for more 300-yard passing games (six) than Schager (five). Schager’s eight 50+ yard pass plays lead FBS and his eight fourth-quarter TD passes rank second behind Colorado State’s Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi (10).

However, San Jose State is the #17 pass defense in the nation, surrendering 182.9 yards per game. And if Hawaii doesn’t come to pass, there really isn’t a Plan B available. The Rainbow Warriors rank 130th out of 130 FBS teams in rushing (57.8 YPG).

Homecoming For Spartans QB

This is Hawaii’s homecoming game and it’s also a homecoming of sorts for San Jose State QB1 Chevan Cordeiro. He started 23 career games for the Rainbow Warriors from 2018-21. Cordeiro is the only quarterback in Hawaii history to pass for 6,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in a career.

Last year’s game saw Cordeiro throw for 208 yards and two TDs in the Spartans’ win over the Rainbow Warriors. In 2019, Cordeiro threw for five TDs in Hawaii’s 42-20 victory over San Jose State.

The Spartans have won two in a row SU and scored 94 points in the process. San Jose State RBs Kairee Robinson and Quali Conley are averaging over 160 yards per game. They’ve combined for 999 yards on the ground.

San Jose State vs Hawaii Prediction

The road hasn’t been treating San Jose State kindly. The Spartans are 1-6 SU in their last seven away games. At the same time, though, they are 3-0-1 ATS away from home this season.

As well, they’re coming to Hawaii off a 52-24 win at New Mexico in their most recent road contest. The Rainbow Warriors fell 42-21 at New Mexico last week.

The Rainbow Warriors have won their past five homecoming games. But they’re 0-3-1 ATS at home this season. The road team is 7-3 SU in the last 10 games of this series.

San Jose State vs Hawaii Pick: San Jose State Spartans -10.5 (-110)
