Seeing the Green Wave as 2.5-point underdogs will make some bettors smile. Houston has not looked particularly strong this season. At +115 on the moneyline, Tulane will be live dogs on Friday night. The betting public seems to agree, so far 85% of spread bets have come in on the Green Wave.

Tulane Betting Trends

Tulane will be looking to bounce back, after losing 27-24 to Southern Mississippi on Saturday night. After rallying his team to a 17-10 upset win of Kansas State two weeks ago, quarterback Michael Pratt was less than stellar against the Golden Eagles. Pratt’s box score of 19 completions for 247 yards and a touchdown doesn’t look half bad. However, he threw a backbreaking second-half pick-six that extended Southern Mississippi’s lead and the Green Wave failed to recover.

While Pratt has looked prodigious in games versus Alcorn State and UMass, the offense as a whole has been rather pedestrian otherwise. He threw two picks in a surprising upset win over then ranked Kansas State, and looked uncomfortable in the pocket against Southern Mississippi. Tulane will need their quarterback at this very best to have any chance of victory in Houston. The Green Wave are just 4-14 against the spread in their last 18 games against the Cougars.

Houston Betting Trends

Houston Cougars head coach Dana Holgerson will be motivated to make 2022 a season to remember even though his team will be moving to the Big 12 following this year. Through four games, his team has been disappointing to say the least. The Cougars are just 2-2 after surviving against Rice 34-27 last Saturday.

Having said that, top receiving weapon Nathaniel Dell has impressed. The electric play-maker added 7 catches for 134 yards to his totals on the season. He is far and away the Cougars’ most dangerous weapon. Senior quarterback Clayton Tune has distributed the ball well, having thrown 7 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions so far this season. Despite that, this Houston team has a lot of warts.

Additionally, star defensive end Derek Parrish will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a bicep injury versus Rice. The senior pass-rusher led the team with 8.5 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks. The Cougars will struggle to replicate his production in the front seven.

Through four weeks of the college football season, Houston may be the most frustrating team to bet on.

Tulane vs Houston Pick

While the Houston Cougars have dominated this matchup for years, Tulane will be a live dog on Friday night. The Green Wave defense ranks 8th in the nation so far this season, allowing only 269 yards per game. Additionally, they surrender only 15.7 points per game. With that being said, Houston is no Alcorn State. Remember, the favorite is 15-3 against the spread in these teams’ last eighteen meetings.

Don’t get it twisted, the Cougars have faced a far more menacing schedule so far this season. This battle-tested team will be motivated to protect their home field on Friday night and put an end to the Green Wave.

Pick: Houston -2.5 (-110)
