The NFL likes to own the news cycle whenever they can, striking again with the 2020 schedule release unveiling the season will kick off Thursday, September 10th as the Kansas City Chiefs raise their Super Bowl banner vs the Houston Texans.

As we hope for the COVID-19 pandemic to be in the rearview come the Fall, let’s see how you can make some money on exact NFL win totals now that we have the schedule in full.

This could finally be the season tortured fans in Buffalo and Cleveland have been waiting for, while San Francisco looks like they could join the trend of teams who go into a post-Super Bowl lull.

Browns Will Reach Double-Digit Wins

Did we all buy-in on the hype last year and get burned by the Browns? Unequivocally, yes.

But in replacing the disaster that was Freddie Kitchens with Kevin Stefanski, adding playmakers on both sides of the ball through the draft and free agency, and Baker Mayfield & Odell Beckham Jr. avoiding offseason scorn – Cleveland should be a 10-win team.

With Stefanski in as HC and play-caller on offense it should steady the ship, as his time with the Vikings showed they will let the run game of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt carry them. While the lack of downfield passing game angered Stefon Diggs in Minnesota, getting the ball out of Mayfield’s hand quickly should please Beckham Jr. & Jarvis Landry who far too often ran open without targets last season.

The addition of Alabama OT Jedrick Wills should help to stabilize protection, and Austin Hooper joins David Njoku as more outlets for Mayfield at the TE position – Baker no longer has an excuse to not perform at a high level.

Defensively the front four should regain its ferocity with Myles Garrett back from his “helmet-gate” suspension and the addition of LSU studs LB Jacob Phillips and S Grant Delpit on the back end.

The schedule lines up in their favor with the toughest out-of-division opponents visiting the Dawg Pound (Eagles, Colts, Texas) and their toughest intra-conference road test coming at Jerry World – where anything can happen.

While the AFC North still likely runs through Baltimore, the Browns have too much talent not to win at least 10 games this season – and at +180 it’s too good a price to pass up.

San Francisco Slip Up?

Much like we saw with their NFC West division-mate Rams this past season, the 49ers could be the team to spin their tires coming off a Super Bowl run in 2020.

While John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan have earned carte blanche from the fan base, some of the moves they made this offseason may not pay dividends immediately – thus leading them to a season around .500 or so.

Beginning with the DeForest Buckner trade, the Niners moved arguably the best interior disruptor in football to maintain future financial flexibility. While they were able to nab his replacement in South Carolina DT Javon Kinlaw who is of a similar mold as a war daddy inside, it will most likely take time for his impact to be felt – especially with the offseason affected by COVID-19.

The offensive side of the ball provides more questions. With Joe Staley’s retirement they made a move for the disgruntled  Trent Williams who hasn’t played a competitive snap in nearly two years during his stalemate with the Redskins.

At his peak, Williams was an All-Pro protector on the blindside in DC – but with his layoff and injury history, how effective can we expect him to be?

They also dealt away Matt Breida and Marquise Goodwin to the Dolphins and Eagles, respectively, and while neither was all that consistent, they were home run threats with the ball in their hands.

Jimmy Garoppolo has already faced questions about his ability to carry an offense, but how will he deal with having Sophomore Deebo Samuel and rookie Bradon Aiyuk as his top targets at receiver? And will the four-headed monster at RB run as smoothly as it did last season?

With all the unknowns in the Bay Area, the +110 you get on them to have a season around .500 in the range of 5-9 wins is worth the play. And if you think 10-6 is their ceiling, double down and take the under in the 2020 NFL Win Totals.

Time for Buffalo to Bill-ieve in a Big Year

Although the last time we saw Josh Allen in action he had an all-time meltdown vs the Texans in the postseason, there’s plenty of reason for optimism in Buffalo.

With Tom Brady finally out of the division, the AFC East is there for the taking, and with the addition of an All-Pro WR in Stefon Diggs that was the missing ingredient to their offense, a season of 10+ wins should be expected.

While the Diggs acquisition made the headlines, the Bills additions to what was already a top ten defense in 2019 should make them an absolute menace to opposing offenses.

The addition of Mario Addison in free agency and drafting of Iowa EDGE AJ Epenesa strengthens an already deep front seven, especially with Ed Oliver expected to break out in year two after registering 43 tackles, eight QB hits and five sacks in limited playing time.

The secondary remains one of the best in football with Tre’Davious White locking down opposing #1’s and Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde flying around the field making plays. GM Brandon Beane even brought in a lottery ticket in Josh Norman, who they hope will rebound playing under his former DC with the Panthers in Sean McDermott.

With the three toughest opponents on their schedule in the Chiefs, Rams, Seahawks, all coming to New Era Field, the Bills should have a good chance to at least break even in those games. While there are trips to San Francisco, Tennessee, and Denver on the docket as well, the Bills have proven their brand of football translates to winning on the road.

Take the +120 on this bunch to win between 10-14 games, and buy a table to jump through with your winnings in Bills Mafia fashion.
