An undefeated NFL regular season is no small feat. Surprisingly, so is a winless one.
The sportsbooks have released their odds for teams to go 17-0 this coming season, as well as the teams that could challenge for a winless campaign.
A dozen squads have ever come up goose eggs in the win column and only five since 1944. There have been two in the 2000s: the 2017 Cleveland Browns, and 2008 Detroit Lions.
In the history of the NFL, only four teams have had a season in that rarified undefeated air: the Chicago Bears in 1934 and 1942, the ’72 Dolphins — the lone squad to go undefeated through to the title — and the 2007 New England Patriots.
Not surprisingly, last year’s Super Bowl finalists headline the list of favorites to go undefeated.

Chiefs, Eagles Co-Favorites at +3500 Odds
The top of this list reads eerily similar to the NFL Super Bowl odds for the coming season, at least through the first seven picks, headlined by the combatants of Super Bowl 57, who check in at +3500.
If anyone has a chance to run the table, it’s got to be the Chiefs, powered by the best player in football in Patrick Mahomes. KC has SBD’s 3rd-lightest strength of schedule ranking. And yet, despite Mahomes’ 64-16 career record as starter, his best start to a season is 5-0.

In fact, in his first year as starter, Jalen Hurts ran the Eagles to 8-0 last season before dropping their first to the lowly Washington Commanders. They come in at 19th in the strength of schedule rankings.
Two other teams worth considering include the Buffalo Bills, who have SBD’s best projected strength of schedule.
However, it’s likely an in-division battle that sinks them: Aaron Rodgers and the Jets could easily hang an L on them, not to mention Miami or long-time nemesis New England. The Bills themselves traditionally melt down in a close game or two in the Josh Allen era.
Cincinnati at +6500 is the furthest down I’d go, with elite QB Â play from Joe Burrow the driving factor. The Bengals’ strength of schedule is middle-of-the-pack, but they’ve got some bangers against the Chiefs, 49ers, Bills and Seahawks.
Perhaps the prop betting field is where you want to go. DraftKings has any team going 17-0 with yes odds at +1400 and no at -5000. You can pick any team to run the table, all the way to a Super Bowl 58 title at +4000 odds.
While the potential payouts look great, this is usually a bet I pass on. If you’re not taking the Chiefs, the field gives you the best shot.
Keep in mind that in the NFL win totals, the highest figure is 11.5.
Pick: Any team going 17-0 (+1400)

Without Murray, Cardinals’ Outlook Bleak
We’re going to find out how much Kyler Murray was propping up the Arizona Cardinals.
Arizona’s roster was already suspect, and without their best player, who suffered a torn ACL in Week 14, the rest of the lineup looks grim. Colt McCoy is expected to assume the duties, with the absolute earliest Murray could return being Week 5.

Somehow they check in with the 11th easiest projected schedule, but they’ve got the entire NFC East on tap, as well as the Bengals, Ravens and two tilts each with the Seahawks and 49ers.
Instability at quarterback dots the top of this list. Houston and Indianapolis (+4000) have their QB’s of the future in Bryce Young and Anthony Richardson, but they’re unknown commodities who could struggle with poor rosters.
If there’s one team to target, check the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Minus Tom Brady, they’re entering the year with Kyle Trask as the nominal starter. Assuming they don’t get veteran reinforcements, things could crumble quickly.
NFL All-Time Winless Teams
Team | Year | Record |
---|---|---|
Cleveland Browns | 2017 | 0-16 |
Detroit Lions | 2008 | 0-16 |
Baltimore Colts | 1982 | 0-8-1 |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | 1976 | 0-14 |
Dallas Cowboys | 1960 | 0-11-1 |
Brooklyn Tigers | 1944 | 0-10 |
Card-Pitt | 1944 | 0-10 |
Chicago Cardinals | 1943 | 0-10 |
Detroit Lions | 1942 | 0-11 |
Cincinnati Reds | 1934 | 0-8 |
Columbus Tigers | 1924 | 0-9 |
You can also take any team in the field to go winless at +1000, or no team at -2500.
As bad as Arizona will be, they still have winnables in the Texans, Bears, Falcons and two in-division games with the awful Rams.
If you desperately want to make a wager on this one, I’d sprinkle a little on the field.
Pick: Any team going 0-17 (+1000)
