  • The 49ers (11-2) are 11-point favorites against the Falcons (4-9) in Week 15
  • Both teams are fresh off of big Week 14 victories
  • Atlanta is 3-2 in its last 5 games after starting 1-7 – read below for our prediction on how the point spread will move leading up to kickoff

San Francisco is the top team in the NFC, and Atlanta has rallied to win three of its last five games. The Falcons are still just 4-9, but the fight they’ve shown in recent weeks suggests that this Week 15 matchup could be far more interesting than it looks on paper. The odds, however, say otherwise. Kyle Shanahan’s team is an 11-point favorite as they welcome the Falcons for a late-season NFC matchup.

Back on Top

San Francisco is coming off of a game that many called the game of the year up to this point in Week 14. They beat New Orleans by a score of 48-46 to take sole possession of first place in the NFC. The two teams combined for 94 points, 981 yards, and 53 first down conversions on the day.

Jimmy Garapollo was tremendous on Sunday. He went 26-of-35 for 349 yards, along with 4 touchdown passes and just one interception. Emmanuel Sanders was the biggest benefactor of the big day, catching 7 passes for 157 yards and a touchdown.

Turning It Around

The Falcons continued their return from the grave with a 40-20 win over NFC South rival Carolina on Sunday. Matt Ryan joined some elite company, eclipsing the 50,000-yard mark for his career. He went 20-of-34 on Sunday for 313 yards, along with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions.

Damontae Kazee was the difference-maker on defense, picking off Kyle Allen twice on Sunday.

Atlanta was 1-7 to start the season, but after a bye week, they’ve gone 3-2 in their last five games. They haven’t become an elite team, but the Falcons of the last month aren’t the joke that this team had become in October.

Where Will the Line Move?

While Atlanta may be resurgent, there are a few keys that suggest the 49ers will handle business in Week 15. San Francisco has covered the spread in three straight games, while the Falcons are just 1-2 against the spread in their last three contests.

Additionally, the Falcons’ success has come, overwhelmingly, against divisional foes. Outside of the NFC South, Dan Quinn’s team is 1-7. Within the division, they hold a 3-2 mark.

At 11 points, already double digits, this line likely won’t move too much further in the 49ers favor. However, this Atlanta team does not provide an exciting prospect for bettors as the team heads out of division for the first time in six weeks.
