Super Bowl 59 between the Philadelphia Eagles and two-time defending-champion Kansas City Chiefs will be the first Super Bowl in which Americans can use prediction markets to legally wager on the biggest sporting event of the entire year. Kalshi hasn’t only posted prediction markets on the outcome of the game, either. Kalshi users can also buy contracts on who will guest star in Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show, which songs will be played, and which companies will run ads during the big game.
Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles Prediction Market
The current prices at Kalshi mirror the odds at traditional sportsbooks, where the Chiefs are, on average, -125 favorites on the moneyline (55.56% implied win probability) with the Eagles +105 underdogs (48.78% implied win probability) in the latest Super Bowl odds.
Kalshi’s markets always have a YES price, a NO price, and a percentage. The YES price is the price at which you can buy a YES contract, and will always be between 1¢ and 99¢. If the YES is the winner, every YES contract pays out $1. The same is true, mutatis mutandis, for NO contracts.
So, currently, if you bought 100 YES contracts on Kansas City at 54¢, which would cost you $54, you would profit 46¢ on every contract (i.e. $46 total) if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl. You would recoup nothing if the Chiefs lose.
One of the main advantages of using a prediction site like Kalshi instead of a traditional sportsbook is the ability to sell your position before the outcome is determined. Most sportsbooks these days have “cash out” options but the vast majority of books drastically undervalue the equity in open wagers.
Kalshi is different because you can sell your open contract to another user. The equity in your contract isn’t being attenuated by a sportsbook. Of course, there is no guarantee that you will have a buyer at the exact time you’re ready to sell.
What Songs Will Be Played at Super Bowl 59 Halftime Show?
The other Super Bowl markets at Kalshi currently are not strictly football related.
Next on the list is the songs that will be played during Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show. The leaders at the moment are his 2024 megahit “Not Like Us”, also known as the track that nearly ended Drake’s career, and 2018’s “Humble”.
Equal parts ear worm and vicious takedown, “Not Like Us” is currently trading at 94¢ to be played during the halftime show and just 10¢ to be left of the setlist.
Who Will Be Part of Kendrick’s Halftime Show?
Kalshi also has prediction markets on which performers will be part of Kendrick’s halftime show at Super Bowl 59.
Information has already come out online that SZA (a.k.a. Solána Imani Rowe) will be part of the annual extravaganza, and the YES price on her is currently trading at the 99¢ maximum.
One artist who’s on the way down in price is Lil’ Wayne. Last week, he was trading at 49¢ on the YES, but that’s down to just 33¢ as of Monday.
Which Companies Will Run Ads During Super Bowl 59?
Like with SZA in the halftime show markets, a few of the companies listed in the Super Bowl commercial market are listed at a 99% chance. Super Bowl mainstay Budweiser is among them, as is soft drink giant Pepsi.
Among the companies that aren’t certainties, Pepsi rival Coca-Cola has the highest percentage chance at 67%.
Sadly for many, State Farm, which topped USA Today’s Ad Meter last year, is listed at just 5%.
