The first Sunday Night Football game of the season features an intriguing matchup as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers visit the Dallas Cowboys at 8:20 p.m. ET at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Both teams won their divisions last season, the Buccaneers capturing the NFC South and the Cowboys finishing first in the NFC East, but lost their first playoff games. Tampa Bay finished 13-5 and Dallas was 12-6.
This will be Todd Bowles’ head coaching debut with the Buccaneers. He was promoted from defensive coordinator when Bruce Arians stepped into an advisory role at the end of last season.
The Buccaneers are 2.5-point favorites after opening as 1.5-point picks in the NFL odds.

Buccaneers vs Cowboys Recent History
The teams also opened the season against each last year with the Buccaneers winning 31-29 on Ryan Succop’s late field goal.
Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady threw for 379 yards and four touchdowns while improving to 6-0 all-time against the Cowboys. Dallas QB Dak Prescott had 403 passing yards and three TD throws.
The Cowboys lead the all-time series 15-5, including going 12-1 at home and 3-0 at AT&T Stadium.
Buccaneers Offense vs Cowboys Defense
Brady retired then unretired in the offseason, but the 45-year-old remains one of the top players in the NFL.
Last season, Brady led the league in passing yards with a career-high 5,316. He also was first in competition, attempts and TD passes with 43.

Brady has one of the most reliable wide receivers in the game in Mike Evans, who is the first player in NFL history to have eight straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons to begin his career. The Buccaneers believe veteran wideout Julio Jones can again be a weapon after being signed as a free agent following two injury-plagued seasons with the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans.
The line is a question mark after guard Ali Marpet retired unexpectedly and center Ryan Jensen and left guard Aaron Stinnie sustained injuries in training camp that knocked them out of the lineup.
Tampa Bay will have to deal with edge rusher Micah Parsons, the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year last season, and cornerback Trevon Diggs, who led the league with 11 interceptions last season.
Cowboys Offense vs Buccaneers Defense
Prescott had a healthy training camp this year after missing the preseason last year while resting a sore shoulder. While he did not report some ankle pain in Thursday’s practice, Prescott said it was the result of changing cleats and he would be fine by Sunday.
The line is also an issue for the Cowboys after left tackle Tyron Smith, an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, tore his left hamstring during training camp and will be sidelined until December.

Tyler Smith, a first-round draft pick, this year will take Tyron Smith’s spot. Connor McGovern moves into the lineup at left guard for Connor Williams, who left for the Miami Dolphins as a free agent. After right tackle La’el Collins was released in a salary-cup move, Terence Steele replaces him.
CeeDee Lamb also becomes WR1 following the offseason trade of Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns, a job he seems well-equipped to handle.
Buccaneers vs Cowboys Injury Report
Cornerback Zyon McCollum (hamstring) has been ruled out for the Buccaneers. Wide receivers Russell Gage (hamstring) and Chris Godwin (knee) are questionable.

Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup (knee) will miss the game and safety Jayron Kearse (neck) is questionable.
Buccaneers vs Cowboys Prediction
Last year’s game was a dandy and so should this year’s. Look for this game between evenly matched teams to go right to the wire again, which makes taking the points the way to go.
The Pick: Cowboys +2.5 (-108)
