  • Devin McCourty leads NFL with four interceptions this season, but isn’t on the board in the Defensive Player of the Year odds
  • Aaron Donald is still the +300 favorite to win DPOY despite a slow start
  • NFL sack leader Shaq Barrett is at +1200

Five weeks into the NFL regular season and the league leader in interceptions still hasn’t seen odds to win the Defensive Player of the Year award.

New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty leads the NFL with four interceptions to go along with 13 tackles through four games.

However, he is not listed on some of the latest sportsbook odds for DPOY.

Will McCourty eventually open at one of the sports books or will his production slow when the Pats face tougher competition?

Here’s a glance at the latest NFL DPOY odds and closer look at who the best bet is heading into Week 5.

2019 Defensive Player of the Year Odds

Player Odds
Aaron Donald +300
Khalil Mack +400
Myles Garrett +600
JJ Watt +1200
Shaquil Barrett +1200

Odds taken 10/03/19

While McCourty has not seen odds at any of our books, players such as Jamal Adams of the New York Jets and Denzel Ward had odds available at one point or another.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett also was held off the list up until this week.

One of the reasons McCourty may not have seen odds as of yet could be that the Patriots have had a rather easy schedule up to this point.

McCourty On Pace For Career Season

With the exception of the Buffalo Bills, the Pats have won games against the Steelers, Jets and Dolphins — who combined have just one win this season.

The Patriots will face teams with weak defenses the next three weeks against the Redskins, Giants and Jets, that will be the perfect opportunity for McCourty to pad his stats and add a few more interceptions.

McCourty is certainly on pace to top his best season when he had seven interceptions in his rookie season in 2010. That same year, the 32-year-old had 82 total tackles — 69 of which were solo.

What’s impressive about McCourty’s season so far is that he’s averaging an interception per game. He won’t be able to keep that pace, but those numbers are definitely DPOY worthy.

Aaron Donald Still The Favorite

Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald is off to a slow start, but remains the favorite to win the DPOY award.

Donald is listed at +300, despite only having one sack through four games this season.

When the odds opened in late July, Donald was as short as +200, but those odds moved to +250 after Week 3 and eventually to +300 going into the fifth week of the season.

Donald won the award last season after a tremendous 2018 campaign in which he had 20.5 sacks and 59 total tackles.

Khalil Mack comes in at number two on the DPOY odds, as the Chicago Bears pass rusher is listed at +400 to win the award. Mack has showed he is worthy of the honor, posting 4.5 sacks and 12 total tackles this season. Mack is back to where he opened (+400), but his odds went as long as +550 after Week 3 of the NFL season.

Barrett has been the story of the season so far as the linebacker has 20 total tackles and leads the NFL with nine sacks going into Week 5.

Barrett opened at a very enticing price of +1200 after not having odds prior to this week. If Barrett can continue this pace, he will be a serious candidate to win the DPOY award this season.

However, the way the Bears’ defense is set up, Mack seems to be a logical choice at +400 heading into Week 5.

Pick: Khalil Mack (+400)
