Early Weather Forecast for 2022 Super Bowl in California at SoFi Stadium

Super Bowl 56 is set, with the Cincinnati Bengals taking on the Los Angeles Rams from SoFi Stadium, in Inglewood, California.

While there are plenty of NFL odds to digest, including the latest 2022 Super Bowl odds and where the NFL public money is going, there’s little concern about the weather conditions from the West Coast.

Let’s have a look at the projected forecast for the big game on February 13, and how these two teams should fare in the conditions.

California Weather Forecast for Super Bowl

  • Temperature: 75 degrees F
  • Forecast: Mainly sunny, with some cloudy breaks
  • Wind: 6mph
  • Humidity: 52% (monthly average)
  • Chance of Precipitation: 0%

Perhaps the most important piece to share here is that SoFi Stadium has a canopy roof. The sides of the structure are open, thus it is considered an open-air stadium, which covers like a dome.

Even with the wind projected at 6mph, it will be a non-factor, as any unusually strong winds would just result in panels being put up to close off the gusts.

 

Los Angeles weather in February is pretty pleasant (while the other side of the country is in a deep freeze). Daily high temperatures for the month are usually around 68 degrees, rarely falling below 59 degrees, or rising above 80.

With kickoff around 6:30pm ET, there’s a chance the game could cool, but the daily low temperatures sit between 40-51 degrees, rarely falling below 43 or topping 56 degrees.

Bengals’ Dome-Hybrid Play This Season

Pristine conditions can only work as a benefit to Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, but does it really matter?

Playing in an open-air Paul Brown Stadium, the Bengals averaged 27.8 points per game. They play on a synthetic turf, which is also used at SoFi. Cincinnati also sports an explosive offense, and getting some of those weapons in open space is scary for opposing defenses.

Cincinnati won outdoor games in both Kansas City and Tennessee in the playoffs.

The closest they came to a hybrid-type was in the Wild Card round against the Las Vegas Raiders. Allegiant Stadium is a fixed roof, though its semi-translucence allows natural light to illuminate the field during day games.

Cincinnati was 7-7 in the regular season playing in open-air stadiums, and 3-0 in hybrid-style buildings (Minnesota, Detroit and Las Vegas).

Bengals’ 2nd-year QB Burrow threw for 4,611 yards in the regular season, with 34 TD’s and 14 interceptions. In three postseason wins, he’s thrown for 842 yards, with four TD passes against two interceptions.

Rams’ Play at Sofi Stadium This Season

Obviously, very unique circumstances for the NFC representatives, as the Rams are playing in their home building for the Super Bowl.

That’s only the second time that’s ever happened, but it will be in back-to-back years, as the Buccaneers played and won at Raymond James Stadium in Super Bowl 55. The Rams are 3.5-point favorites in the opening Rams vs Bengals odds.

The Rams have been pretty good at home, sporting a 5-3 mark at SoFi Stadium, averaging 26.6 points per game. Defensively, they’ve held opponents to 20.8 points across those eight games.

Los Angeles had to finally shake its arch nemesis in the NFC Championship to advance, dispatching the San Francisco 49ers 20-17, the same team that beat them three weeks earlier on the same field.

The Rams also have a home playoff win over the Cardinals (34-11), and a 30-27 road win over the Buccaneers.

During the regular season, Matthew Stafford threw for 2,349 yards, with 21 touchdown tosses against six interceptions at home. In three playoff games, he’s thrown for 905 yards, six touchdowns and an interception.

How Weather Will Affect Super Bowl?

Weather shouldn’t be a factor in the result for Super Bowl 56.

With exciting weaponry on both teams, and on both sides of the ball, a fast, dry track provides no distinct advantage. Both teams tied for scoring in the regular season, each averaging 27.1 points per game, which tied for seventh.
