While it took some late-game heroics and overtime against the Ravens, and a gutty fourth quarter against the Steelers, Derek Carr and the Raiders are 2-0. The Dolphins meanwhile, beat one AFC East foe in the Patriots, and then got trounced by the Bills.
And in the process, they lost quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to fractured ribs.
So the Dolphins will travel to Las Vegas for the second time since the Raiders moved. Kickoff is set for 4:05 pm EST from Allegiant Stadium on CBS.
Dolphins vs Raiders Odds
Team | Moneyline | Spread | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Miami Dolphins | +155 | +3.5 (-115) | Ov 44.0 (-110) |
Las Vegas Raiders | -180 | -3.5 (-105) | Un 44.0 (-110) |
Odds as of September 24th at DraftKings
When things opened up for Week 3, the Raiders were listed at -120. Since then, and likely due to Tagovailoa’s injury, the Raiders have became big favorites. Some late-week money has been closing the gap, though.
The spread has seen a bit of a moving target as well, now at -3.5. In Week 1 the Dolphins covered on the road against the Pats but failed to even score against the Bills. Vegas were underdogs by -3.0 and -5.0 to open the season, but stunned the Ravens and Steelers.
New Face at QB for ‘Fins
You don’t have to go back too far for the last time these two squared off. It was Week 16 of last year.
While Miami was led by Tagovailoa to start, it was Ryan Fitzpatrick who came in, took over, and led the Dolphins to a 26-25 comeback win.
And even though most of the key players are back for the Dolphins, it will be a new face at QB.
Week 3 Injury Report: Dolphins vs Raiders
Dolphins | Injury, Status | Raiders | Injury, Status |
---|---|---|---|
Tua Tagovailoa, QB | Ribs, Out | Roderic Teamer, S | Ankle, Out |
N/A | N/A | Richie Incognito, G | Calf, Out |
N/A | N/A | Dallin, Leavitt, S | Concussion, Out |
N/A | N/A | Josh Jacobs, RB | Ankle. Doubtful |
Jacoby Brissett will get the start on Sunday after going 24-of-40 for 169 yards and an interception. While Miami is in a good spot with a QB2 that has 32 career starts under his belt as a backup, Brissett barely saw the field last year. He threw just eight passes for the Colts.
Brissett’s last full season starting (2018) actually sees his Yards per Attempt (6.6 to 6.3) and his Net Yards Gained per Attempt (5.87 to 5.41) match up well with Tagovailoa’s rookie year. The best case scenario is that level of production.

For Vegas, Josh Jacobs is their biggest absence. He made an appearance at Thursday’s practice, in a non-contact capacity but has been slapped with a Doubtful tag. Peyton Barber paced the Raiders in carries and yards (13 and 32), while Kenyan Drake caught five of six targets for 46 yards.
Carr Makes His Case
While it’s only been two weeks, could Derek Carr be making a case for NFL MVP?
Although the pacing was a little off in Week 1, Carr still finished with 435 yards and a pair of TDs. A 382 yard performance last week, and he’s the first passer to cross both the 700 and 800 yard marks this year.
Derek Carr vs Dolphins Pass Defense
62/93 | Att/Comp | 46/72 |
66.7 | Comp % | 63.9% |
817 | Yards | 439 |
8.8 | Y/ATT | 6.4 |
4 | TD | 3 |
1 | INT | 1 |
104.1 | Rating | 90.0 |
At first glance, the Dolphins’ numbers look good. But the Patriots’ passing attack was designed to go short in Week 1, and while Josh Allen offered mixed results in Week 2, Miami’s offense didn’t force Buffalo to operate with any urgency.

Carr’s last three dates with Miami have led to big numbers. He’s thrown for 300 yards each time, with a TD in all three games. Last year’s outing was his best, as it was the first time he escaped a game against the Dolphins without throwing a pick.
Raiders Keep Rolling
While Will Fuller will make his debut for the Dolphins, it won’t be enough to swing the momentum in their favor. Bum ankle or not, Carr has come out hot, giving the Raiders a significant advantage under center.
This is awesome: @Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson made 4 field goals in Week 2 and won AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
The bad news? He was playing against himself in fantasy and contributed to his own loss 🤣pic.twitter.com/IcSBFc9k79

Miami has actually fared well against the AFC and NFC West recently. They were 3-1 on the coast last year and have won four of their last six. But it’s tough to see Brissett keeping up with Carr on Sunday.
The Pick: Raiders -3.5 (-105); 1 Unit
