Broncos Big Favorites

The Denver Broncos are the week’s biggest favorites as 10.5-point home picks over the New York Jets.

The Broncos are 2-0 for the seventh time in the last nine seasons after posting a 23-13 road win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Wide receiver Courtland Sutton had nine receptions for 159 yards. That accounted for nearly half the passing yardage of Teddy Bridgewater, who 26 of 34 for 328 yards with touchdown throws to Tim Patrick and Noah Fant.

Rookie quarterback Zach Wilson had an awful day as the Jets lost 26-6 to the visiting New England Patriots and fell to 0-2. The No. 2 overall draft pick was intercepted four times, including twice by JC Jackson.

Wilson was 19 of 33 for 210 yards as the Jets lost their 11th straight September game.

Pats, Raiders Slim Choices

Two games have one-point spreads with the Patriots (1-1) favored over the New Orleans Saints (1-1) at home and Las Vegas Raiders (2-0) the pick over the visiting Miami Dolphins (1-1),

Another first-round draft pick, quarterback Mac Jones, fared much better for the Patriots on Sunday. He connected on 22 of 30 passes for 186 yards against the Jets.

The Patriots got touchdown runs from Damien Harris and James White.

The Saints were throttled 26-7 on the road by the Carolina Panthers, falling behind 17-0 while getting outgained 274-65 in the first half.

Jameis Winston, who threw five touchdown passes in a Week 1 win over the Packers, was held to 111 yards passing, intercepted twice, and sacked four times. Alvin Kamara had just five yards rushing on eight carries.

The Raiders notched an impressive 26-17 road victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

Derek Carr passed for 382 yards and two touchdowns, including a 61-yard strike to Henry Ruggs midway through the fourth quarter. That put the Raiders ahead for good.

The Dolphins were routed 35-0 by the Buffalo Bills at home and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was knocked from the game in the first quarter with a rib injury. Jacoby Brissett replaced Tagovailoa and was 24 of 40 for 169 yards.

Highs and Lows

In addition to having the largest spread, the Jets-Broncos’ total of 41.5 points is the lowest on the slate.

The Broncos have scored 50 points in their first two games while allowing 26. The Jets have generated just 20 points while surrendering 44 and Wilson’s INTs haven’t helped matters.

The biggest total is 54 points for the Los Angeles Chargers’ visit to the Kansas City Chiefs.

There were 62 points scored in the Chiefs’ opener, a 33-29 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Through two games, the Chargers have scored 37 points and surrendered 36.

Movement on the Line

The Bills are favored by 8.5 points at home over the Washington Football Team and that spread seems a little high. While the Bills dismantled the Dolphins on Sunday, they looked bad while losing to the Steelers at home in Week 1.

Following both teams’ results Sunday, the Patriots being one-point favorites over the Saints is understandable but not necessarily accurate New England is no longer a darling of bettors since Tom Brady departed prior to last season and a strong case can be made that New Orleans is the better team.
