Saints vs 49ers Recent History

Five of the last six games in the series have been played in New Orleans. In the Saints’ only visit to Levi’s Stadium, they won 41-23 in 2016.

The Saints won the last matchup, 27-13 in 2020. Alvin Kamara scored three touchdowns.

Saints Offense vs 49ers Defense

Saints quarterback Andy Dalton is coming off an outstanding performance against the Rams. He set a career-high by completing 84% of his passes, connecting on 21 of 25 attempts for 260 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.

Dalton’s 149.6 QB rating was also a career-best. He has thrown for at least 300 yards in three of his last four road games.

Rookie wide receiver Chris Olave caught five passes for 102 yards and a 53-yard TD. He leads all rookies with 51 receptions, 760 receiving yards and three 100-plus-yard receiving games.

The 49ers top the NFL in total yards allowed. However, they have shown some vulnerability against the pass as they are 11th in the league in that category.

49ers Offense vs Saints Defense

For a quarterback who was seemingly unwanted by the 49ers in the offseason, Jimmy Garoppolo is playing quite well. He equaled his career high with four touchdown passes against the Cardinals and has thrown for at least two scores in five of his last six games.

Garoppolo has also gone three straight starts without throwing an interception.

The 49ers will have to account for Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan, who never seems to slow down. He is the only player in the NFL with at least five sacks in each of the last 11 seasons.

The 49ers will likely try to exploit the Saints’ 22nd-ranked rushing defense with a heavy dose of running back Christian McCaffrey.

Saints vs 49ers Injury Report

The 49ers were hoping to get defensive tackle Arik Armstead (foot/ankle) back this week after missing seven games, but he is listed as doubtful. Defensive end Samson Ebukam (quadriceps/Achilles) will return after a two-game absence.

Saints defensive tackle Payton Turner (ankle), linebacker Pete Werner (ankle) and safety J.T. Gray (hamstring) have been ruled out.

Saints vs 49ers Prediction

The 49ers are trying for their first four-game winning streak since starting the 2019 season with eight straight victories on their way to the NFC title. The Saints have won only once on the road all season, beating the Atlanta Falcons in their opener.

However, the 49ers are coming off a road game in a foreign country in a short week and Dalton is coming off arguably the best game of his 12-year career. Look for the Saints to keep it close.

Pick: Saints +9.5 (-110)

Season: 4-3 (+0.7 units) ATS
