  • The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 6.5-point road favorites over the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL’s Week 6 TNF showdown
  • Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is 4-1 in his career against the Eagles
  • Tampa Bay has won three of its past four visits to Philadelphia

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking every bit the part of reigning Super Bowl champions. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles finally got back on the winning path.

At home, Tampa Bay spotted the Miami Dolphins 10-points in the spread and still covered easily, winning 45-17. On the road, the Eagles were handing the Carolina Panthers a 21-18 defeat. Philly is just 2-3 overall on the season but 2-0 straight up against NFC South opponents.

Still, it appears that Tampa Bay’s performance is swaying the oddsmakers much more than the Eagles’ return to the win column. It’s the Buccaneers who are the 6.5-point road favorites at Philadelphia in the Week 6 edition of TNF.

Tampa is is 0-2 against the spread as an away favorite this season.

Kickoff for Thursday’s game at Lincoln Financial Field is set for 8:20pm ET. The weather forecast is calling for clouds, 6 mph wind and a temperature of 69 degrees.

Plenty Of Early Line Fluctuation

In just a few short hours, the line on this game was bobbing and weaving like Tyson Fury in the ring. It opened at Tampa Bay -6. Within moments, the spread lengthened to Buccaneers -7, before shortening to its current stance of Bucs -6.5.

Tampa Bay was also favored in each of its two previous road games. The Buccaneers lost outright 34-24 as the 1-point choice at the Los Angeles Rams. Tampa Bay won 19-17 at New England but failed to cover as the 6.5-point chalk over the Patriots.

Even though they are 4-1 and atop the NFC South, the Bucs are a disappointing 2-3 against the spread. Philadelphia is also 2-3 ATS, matching the straight up record of the Eagles.

Philly is 0-2 SU and ATS as a home underdog. The Eagles lost 17-11 to the San Francisco 49ers as 3-point dogs. Kansas City won 42-30 at Philadelphia. The Chiefs were the 7-point away pick.

Buccaneers Squish Fish

The problem with trying to deny Tampa Bay is that the Buccaneers simply have too many weapons at their disposal to contain them all.

Even with tight end Rob Gronkowski out via injury, wide receiver Mike Evans caught two touchdown passes for the 14th time in his career. That’s a franchise record. Fellow WR Antonio Brown went over 100 receiving yards with a TD reception for the 29th game since 2013. That’s the most in the NFL over that span.

Brady enjoyed his ninth career game with five or more TD passes. That’s tied with Peyton Manning for the second-most in the NFL since 1950.

Tampa Bay’s 45-point outburst against the Dolphins was the club’s fifth game of 44+ points since the start of the 2020 season. The Bucs needed 44 years of existence (1976-2019) to accumulate the franchise’s first five game of 44 or more points scored.

Hurts So Good . . . And Bad

The feet of Jalen Hurts keep helping the Eagles. It’s the arm of Hurts that keeps hurting Philly.

He’s just the fifth QB in the NFL since 1950 to rush for 500 yards in his first nine career starts. However, the six interceptions thrown by Hurts is the most by an Eagles QB in his first nine starts since Kevin Kolb (nine) in 2009-10.

Aligning The Line

Based on the early action, it appears that this line is likely to continue to linger between six and seven points.

Philly’s inability to cover at home will tempt Tampa Bay bettors. However, their excitement will be tempered by the Bucs’ lack of success covering as the road chalk.
