Nothing moves the NFL playoff odds like uncertainty at the quarterback position. During Wild Card Weekend, two teams are experiencing that dilemma, and it’s impacting the betting likes on those games with great significance.

Both the Baltimore Ravens (Lamar Jackson) and Miami Dolphins (Tua Tagovailoa) are going into their AFC Wild Card games knowing their QB1 is out. To make matters worse in Miami’s case, backup Teddy Bridgewater is also a no-go.

It’s no surprise at all then that the Dolphins at the Buffalo Bills and the Ravens at the Cincinnati Bengals are displaying the biggest movement since the Wild Card Weekend opening odds. They are among three games featuring point spreads of at least nine points.

Prior to taking a deeper dive into the analysis of this week’s line movement, let’s look at the up-to-the-minute Wild Card Weekend NFL odds.

In the Wild Card Weekend against the spread picks, home teams are favored in four of six games. All six games are showing over/unders that are above 40 points.

A unique facet of Wild Card Weekend is that all six games are featuring regular-season rematches. In the case of the Dolphins-Bills, Ravens-Bengals and Seattle Seahawks at the San Francisco 49ers, it’s the third meeting of the season between these divisional rivals.

Wild Card Weekend Biggest Line Movements

Oddsmakers are anticipating that the Dolphins will be making a huge Bills payment in the cold of Buffalo this weekend. Not only is QB1 Tagovailoa (concussion protocol) out, backup Bridgewater (dislocated pinky finger) also won’t be playing. That means another start for Dolphins third-stringer Skylar Thompson. He did beat the New York Jets last week to get Miami to the postseason. But this week he’s got to out-perform Josh Allen.

This game was at Buffalo -10 in the opening line. It’s since lengthened to Bills -13.5 in the NFL playoff odds. These two AFC East rivals split two meetings this season, with the home team winning both games. Miami gave a good accounting in a 32-29 loss at Buffalo. However, that was with Tagovailoa under center.

Likewise, Ravens QB1 Jackson taking to social media to confirm that he wouldn’t be playing helped to send the line on their game from Bengals -5.5 to Cincinnati -9. These two 3.5-point growth spurts are the biggest spread moves of Wild Card Weekend.

Jackson Injury Sparking Big Total Movement

The NFL betting sites are displaying a rapidly-shrinking total in the Ravens at Bengals contest. It opened at 43.5 points. Today, it’s shrunk to 40.5 points, creating the largest total movement among this week’s games.

Certainly, the root cause of such shrinkage is the news that Jackson won’t be playing. There’s also uncertainty about whether backup Tyler Huntley (shoulder) will be able to answer the bell. That could mean another start for QB3 Anthony Brown, who lost last week at Cincinnati.

Chargers-Jaguars Showing Smallest Wild Card Spread

The people seem as uncertain about the outcome of the Los Angeles Chargers-Jacksonville Jaguars game as the oddsmakers. The line opened on this game with the visiting Chargers as 2.5-point favorites. LA is still the road chalk, but now the line is only 1.5 points.

The NFL public betting trends on this game are divided. Moneyline splits are with the Jaguars. In the spread splits, it’s the Chargers who are getting the backing.

Buffalo Getting Biggest Spread in NFL Playoff Odds

For the sixth time this season, Buffalo is set as a double-digit points favorite. The 13.5 points Bills bettors would be laying is the largest point spread of Wild Card Weekend.

However, Buffalo is just 2-3 ATS in the previous five games as the 10+ point chalk. The Bills are 10-8-2 ATS as a 10+ favorite over the past 20 occasions it’s happened. But they’re 6-2-2 ATS in their last 10 home games as a double-digit pick.

More Than Jackson’s Absence Causing Small Total

Certainly, Jackson’s absence is having an impactful effect on the Ravens vs Bengals total. Since 2018, Baltimore is 2-0 SU against Cincinnati when Jackson starts and  0-3 when another QB starts.

However, there’s another factor working in this small total. Baltimore’s defense has done a fine job of containing Bengals QB Joe Burrow. The Ravens limited Burrow to one TD pass in each game this season.

Another Slugfest Expected In Minnesota

The Kansas City Chiefs have the AFC bye this week and the Detroit Lions didn’t qualify for postseason play. That’s given other teams the opportunity to display the biggest total of Wild Card game odds.

In the New York Giants at Minnesota Vikings game that is being assigned the big number. The total on this game is 48 points.

When the Giants and Vikings clashed in regular-season play, they went over this total. Minnesota won at home 27-24.

The over is 1-4-1 in Minnesota home playoff games since 2000, though.
