Just over a week ago, the opening line of for Monday Night Football’s Week 16 matchup was a pick’em at Caeasars Sportsbook (among others) between the LA Chargers (8-6, 4-3 away) and the host Indianapolis Colts (4-9-1, 2-4 home).

A relentless QB carousel from the home team, and a batch of key injuries has changed that. Coupled with the Chargers’ need to keep winning in the ultra-competitive AFC playoff picture, the line has settled in with the visitors pegged as 4-point favorites.

They currently sit ninth in the 2023 Super Bowl odds, with a team that could make some noise. The Bolts are ninth in scoring at 22.3 points per game, and they have a defense playing its best ball of the season, allowing a total of 51 points the last three games.

Chargers vs Colts ATS Betting Splits

Looking at the latest NFL public betting trends for this matchup, and more than three-quarters of the public (78%) are leaning on the Chargers to cover the spread.

The Chargers have become one of the best bets in the NFL this season, going 8-5-1 against the spread. Their 61.5% success rate is the fifth-best in the NFL. Indy sits on the other side of the spectrum, at 6-8-0 ATS, a success rate of 40%, which ranks 25th.

As a betting favorite on the road, LA is a sparkling 3-1-0 ATS, tied for the third most wins in that scenario. For the Colts, they hit a low of many last week, blowing an NFL-record 33-point lead to lose to the Minnesota Vikings.

Outlined on our Chargers vs Colts preview, interim head coach Jeff Saturday’s biggest challenge will be to get his team competitive for a mean-nothing game.

LA vs Indianapolis Total Betting Splits

Prior to Indy’s meltdown loss Saturday, the scoring line for this game was as high as 50.5 points at Caesars. It’s dipped around the 45-point mark.

The public is decidedly split at the adjusted figure, with 51% choosing the under.

This has to do more with the roster flux going on with Indy, and that will definitely have an effect when picking your Chargers vs Colts player prop bets for Monday.

For the second time this season, Indy is benching veteran Matt Ryan, and starting third-stringer Nick Foles. Yes, Foles does have a Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP title under his belt, but those 2017 accolades are clearly his high-water mark.

Foles has yet to throw a pass this season. It also seems the Colts have seen enough of youngster Sam Ehlinger, who was brutal in a pair of starts after the first Ryan benching. He will be the back up.

Already down their best defender Shaq Leonard (back) for the rest of the year, 2021 rushing champion Jonathan Taylor went on IR after suffering a high-ankle sprain in the Vikings’ loss. That leaves the backfield to Deon Jackson and Zack Moss.

Since their Week 8 bye, LA his only hit the 27-point plateau once, averaging 21.1 points per game, but they’ve won three of their last four, including last week’s 17-14 win over the Titans.

Justin Herbert threw for 313 yards — the third straight game he’s gone over 300+ yards passing. He did have a pair of interceptions, the first time he’s thrown a pick in four games.

Chargers vs Colts Moneyline Betting Splits

LA is looking to book their second playoff appearance since 2014, and their first since 2018. The Colts were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention once the Jags dumped the Jets on Thursday Night Football.

The moneyline, like the total and spread, have moved during the week. Less than a week ago, the Chargers were just -154 to win outright, and had expanded to as much as -250 at some online sportsbooks, before settling at the current -195 clip at DraftKings.

Clearly siding with the more motivated squad, the public is all over LA to win their fourth in the last five, with 85% picking the Bolts to win.
