To say the public is due when it comes to NFL betting would be an understatement. Week 13 marked the second straight week that each of the three most heavily bet teams against the spread failed to cover. Not only that, only one of the six most heavily backed teams (Steelers) managed to cash the public a ticket.
The Raiders and Rams kickoff Week 14 tonight on Thursday Night Football, and the public is shovelling money onto Las Vegas at an outrageous clips.
Online sportsbooks have been quick to react, but for now it seems they’ll need to make the line even higher in the Raiders’ favor to draw some LA money.
Per the NFL public betting trends, Las Vegas opened as 5.5 point road favorites in Los Angeles but that number is up to a full touchdown.

Raiders vs Rams ATS Betting Splits
As of Thursday afternoon, 67% of the spread wagers are on the Raiders -7, as is 73% of the ATS handle. If you feel inclined to bet Derek Carr and Co. be sure to shop around. That’s because there still appears to be some online sportsbooks hanging -6.5’s.
You won’t find a ton of positive Las Vegas trends to support a Raiders wager tonight. Las Vegas is 7-17 ATS as a favorite since the start of 2019, which is the third worst cover percentage for a team giving points over that span. The Raiders are 0-3 as a road favorite this year, and just 5-7 ATS overall.
What you will find in Las Vegas’ favor however, is a significant advantage in the health department. LA’s top-three players, Aaron Donald, Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford are all out per the Raiders vs Rams injury report. The latter two are on IR, while last week’s starter John Wolford is dealing with a neck injury.

Wolford will test out his injury in warmups, but if he can’t go newly signed Baker Mayfield will get the start. That seems problematic for Rams backers as Mayfield was just signed on Tuesday.
Wolford was competent enough to help LA put a scare in Seattle in Week 13, as the Rams easily covered as 8-point underdogs. As bad as the Las Vegas’ ATS trends are, LA’s are worse. The Rams are tied for the worst record against the spread (3-8-1) in 2022. They also boast the league’s worst cover margin (-6.6), and have beaten the spread only once in their last six games.
Despite the glum outlook for LA, one of experts believes there’s no way Las Vegas should be laying a full TD. As such, he’s rolling with Los Angeles in the Raiders vs Rams picks.
Las Vegas vs Los Angeles Total Betting Splits
When it comes to the total, the over/under action is relatively even. The number opened at 42 and after reaching 43 earlier in the week, it’s back down to where the line started. At that number, 55% of the bets and 52% of all money wagered on the total is on the over.
NFL Bottom-6 Pass Defenses Per DVOA
Rank | Team |
---|---|
32. | Chicago Bears |
31. | Jacksonville Jaguars |
30. | Las Vegas Raiders |
29. | Atlanta Falcons |
28. | New York Giants |
27. | Los Angles Rams |
Los Angeles is 7-5 to the under this season, although the over has hit in three of their past four games. Two of the three games they’ve played without Stafford have cleared the total, including last week against the Seahawks.
Las Vegas meanwhile, has seen its contests fly over the total at the league’s eighth highest rate. 10 of their 12 games have produced at least 45 points, in large part due to an underwhelming defense. The Raiders rank second worst on defense per DVOA, while only two teams grade out worse versus the pass.
LA’s pass defense ranks just three spots higher, but their pass rush is non-existent without Donald. That should give Carr plenty of time to dice up Los Angeles’ secondary. Because of that, he’s an attractive target in the Raiders vs Rams player props.
Raiders vs Rams Moneyline Betting Splits
As far as the moneyline market goes, it’s completely one-sided. Las Vegas is garnering 79% of the moneyline bets and 84% of the handle. The bulk of these bets are likely tied up in moneyline parlays, as laying -275 on the Raiders to win outright makes little sense.
Las Vegas’ playoff hopes are still alive, but at 5-7 one more loss would likely sink their postseason dreams. LA on the other hand, has been virtually eliminated from the playoffs at 3-9. There’s no tanking for this team though, as their first round pick belongs to Detroit as part of the Stafford trade.
