Christian McCaffrey did score a touchdown the 49ers losing effort versus Cincinnati, extending his streak to 17 games with a touchdown, tying the all-time mark and leaving the record up for grabs in Week 10. He’s surely worth a look in the NFL player props this weekend.

You can only beat the teams on your schedule, but as impressive as the 49ers looked to start the year, a closer look will show of their five wins, only two, Pittsburgh and Dallas have winning records. Of those, the Steelers are some sort of anomaly posting a winning record despite being out-gained in all eight games. Of the previous 33 teams to hold that distinction after the opening eight games, all had losing records.

Their other wins versus the Rams, Giants and Cardinals are versus teams with a combined 6-21 record.

Entering the bye, Brock Purdy had been coming off of a concussion. He cleared protocol to play in Week 8, but hasn’t looked the same since suffering the injury. The extra week off will surely have helped. It has also helped for WR Deebo Samuel who returned to practice this week and has been taken off the injury report. LT Trent Williams returned to practice late in the week but is still highly questionable to particiapte this weekend.

Jaguars Betting Preview

Jacksonville have been one of the hottest ATS teams this season when looking at NFL ATS records. They’re tied with Detroit at 6-2 ATS.

That has translated to the wins and losses straight up as well where they’re also 6-2. In fact, the bye may have come at a bad time for Jacksonville considering they were riding a five-game winning streak where they only trailed for a total of seven minutes and ten seconds in those games.

You could perhaps make a similar argument that the Jags also haven’t beaten many teams of note. They’ve beaten the Colts (twice), Falcons, Bills, Saints and Steelers. Of that group, Buffalo, Pittsburgh and New Orleans all boast winning records. But neither Pittsburgh or New Orleans has looked overly impressive in doing so. And even Buffalo looks a shell of themselves from last year.

Since 2020, Jacksonville is 2-1 ATS following a bye, while San Fran is 1-2.

In that same timeframe, neither team has been good in non-conference games with the Jags 5-11 ATS and the 49ers 7-10 ATS.

I believe the 49ers are a better team than that of one that has lost three straight. Getting a bye week after a run like that is usually a good opportunity for teams to regroup. To attempt an improvement defensively, Defensive Coordinator Steve Wilks will be coming down from the booth to coach from the sidelines.

I also don’t believe the Jaguars are quite as good of a team that has won five straight. It’s possible the bye week came at a bad time and could cool them off.

Home field is not exactly a place where Trevor Lawrence has excelled being just 10-11 SU in his career. I’ll back the 49ers to get back on track with a win and cover in the 49ers vs Jaguars odds.
