Seahawks Have Some Momentum

The Seahawks enter Sunday’s affair having won three of their last four games. While the lone loss was a shocking 17-12 calamity at home two weeks ago to the Colt McCoy-led New York Giants, Seattle did rebound last week. The Seahawks crushed the other New York team, smoking the Jets 40-3.

The challenge with the Seahawks is they’ve been a real up-and-down team this season, even though their record is 9-4. They started the year 5-0 and are just 4-4 in their last eight contests. Road games have been an adventure for them as they are just 3-3 in away games and have dropped three of their last four on the road.

The Seahawks have to be a little concerned about their offense. While they scored 40 against the hapless Jets last week, they had averaged just 19.8 points per game in the four weeks prior. A big issue for them in road games has been their defense, which allows 6.1 points per game more in away games than at home.

Washington Is On A Roll

The Washington Football Team has been somewhat opposite of Seattle: they started 2-7 and were a mess in the first half of the season. However, they enter Sunday’s affair having won four straight. Their defense has been lights out, allowing a total of 57 points over their last four contests.

A big concern here is quarterback Alex Smith is out and Dwayne Haskins will start instead. Haskins was benched earlier in the season for poor play and then was even deactivated – allegedly for having a poor attitude.

Smith hasn’t been great but he’s been steady, avoiding bad mistakes and giving his team a chance. Haskins doesn’t have a QBR higher than 43.5 in any one game this season and has three interceptions and three fumbles (one lost) on just 158 passing attempts. He put the team and defense in bad positions; Smith didn’t.

What’s The Best Bet?

This is a classic offense-versus-defense showdown but the Seahawks offense hasn’t been anything to write home about of late. Outside of the Jets game, they’ve been laboring, as Russell Wilson is averaging just 223.2 passing yards per game over his last four contests. He’s been sacked the fourth-most times this season (41) and now has to go up against a defense that has the fifth-most sacks (40).

On the other hand, it’s tough to trust Washington to do anything with the ball. The team had moved on from Haskins and he’s only back because it’s an emergency situation. Washington won’t score many points here and Seattle likely won’t either unless we see lots of turnovers. Go with the under here.

Prediction: Under 43.5 (-110)
