- Bruins finished second in Atlantic Division with 107 points
- Defending Cup champion Blues open at 96.5
- Look for Islanders to take step back after strong 2018 season
Fresh off a Stanley Cup appearance the Boston Bruins enter the 2019-20 NHL season among the early favorites to win the championship.
Boston was one of nine teams to have 100 or more points last season and online sportsbooks have already set an Over/Under of 100.5 for the Bruins.
Can the Bruins hit the 100-point mark for a second straight year? Here’s a look at the best total point under bets for the upcoming NHL season.
Boston Bruins Season Point Total
Team | 2019-20 Projection | Odds |
---|---|---|
Boston Bruins | 100.5 | O -110, U -110 |
All odds taken October 2, 2019.
Led by one of the best lines in hockey, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak powered the Bruins to a 49-24-9 record and 107 points last season.
Boston finished second in the Atlantic Division and made a deep playoff run before losing in seven games to the St. Louis Blues in the Stanley Cup final.
With an O/U opening total points line of 100.5, it’ll be more difficult for the Bruins to hit that mark this season.

The top line is still intact, but Bergeron is now in his mid-30s so expect his offensive production to decline slightly. That will have a huge impact on his linemates as Marchand led the team with 100 points — 36 of which were goals.
Another reason the Bruins likely won’t top 100 points this season is parity. The Eastern Conference has improved greatly, especially in the Atlantic Division where the Bruins will have to face the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens and Florida Panthers regularly.

New York Islanders Season Point Total
Team | 2019-20 Projection | Odds |
---|---|---|
New York Islanders | 92.5 | O -110, U -110 |
The Islanders were just fine without John Tavares, who left New York to join the Maple Leafs as a free agent last year.
The Isles posted 48 wins and 103 points to finish second in the Metropolitan behind the Washington Capitals.
Sportsbooks have set the opening total point odds for the Islanders at 92.5.

New York had the best goals-against average in the NHL a year ago as the goaltending tandem of Robin Lehner and Thomas Griess led the Isles to a league-leading 2.33 GAA.
The Islanders will be fighting for points with much-improved teams like the New Jersey Devils, Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers.
Anaheim Ducks Season Point Total
Team | 2019-20 Projection | Odds |
---|---|---|
Anaheim Ducks | 82.5 | O -110, U -110 |
Once considered a powerhouse of the Western Conference, the Anaheim Ducks are in rebuild mode. That is why the opening point total for the Ducks has been set to 82.5 for the upcoming season.
The team did not have one player on its roster with 50 or more points last season. The closest? That was veteran and Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf, who had 14 goals and 48 points in 67 games.

The question is, where will the offensive production come from to keep the Ducks competitive this season?
Anaheim ranked dead last in goals per game at 2.39 and with a roster made up of the same core, it’s going to be another long and disappointing season for the Ducks.
At this point, Anaheim will likely be playing for a high draft pick more than anything
St. Louis Blues Season Point Total
Team | 2019-20 Projection | Odds |
---|---|---|
St. Louis Blues | 100.5 | O -120, U +100 |
The defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues enter the season with a ton of pressure.
Can the Blues be a legitimate 100-point team or will they fade back to mediocrity?
The Blues finished one-point shy of 100 last season — an impressive feat considering the team was at the bottom of the league just after Christmas and into the second half of the NHL season.
Sportsbooks have set St. Louis’ opening point total for the 2019-20 campaign at 96.5 with enticing +100 odds on the under.

Can Jordan Binnington be the same goaltender that led the Blues to their first-ever Stanley Cup win? Binnington led the league with a GAA 1.89 and ranked fourth overall in save percentage at .927
Cracking the 100-point mark in the Central is difficult with the division jam-packed with strong teams from top to bottom. The Blues will be a playoff team, but they won’t hit 100 points this season.
Nashville Predators Season Point Total
Team | 2019-20 Projection | Odds |
---|---|---|
Nashville Predators | 98.5 | O -110, U -110 |
Much like the Bruins, look for the Predators to take a step back this season.
Several factors are in play here, but offense will come into question as the Preds lacked goal production last season.
Of all the division leaders last season, Nashville had the worst goals for average, scoring 2.88 per game.

The Preds will be relying heavily on forward Filip Forsberg, who has struggled to stay healthy over the last two seasons. Forsberg had 28 goals and 50 points in 64 games played.
The Central will be as competitive as ever with Winnipeg, Dallas and St. Louis all fighting for points and a division crown, which will leave the Preds below the 98.5 total projection.
