After riding a six-game winning streak back into contention for a playoff spot, the Colorado Avalanche are hoping to keep building on that momentum post-All Star break.
The Avs got off on the wrong foot on Tuesday night, losing in overtime against the Penguins. That kicked off a three-game Eastern swing for Colorado. After facing the Lightning, they’ll play the Panthers before returning home.
For Tampa Bay, they’re just hoping to keep stringing wins together. They had won three in a row heading into All Star Weekend before a lopsided loss against the Panthers and letting the Sharks out of a 3-1 hole on Tuesday. Sitting just four points back of the Maple Leafs with two games in hand, this week is huge if Tampa is to close the gap with Toronto in the Atlantic.
They get a chance to climb a little closer in a rematch of June’s Stanley Cup Final.

In their first meeting since the Avs knocked off the two-time defending champs, Tampa is favored based on home ice advantage. The total is definitely worth considering. While the Avs have been a lock on the under lately, both teams feature plenty of firepower.

Last year’s finalists will face off twice in the span of a week. But could we be in for a rematch in June again? It’s possible. Colorado sits third in the Stanley Cup odds while the Lightning are fifth.
Colorado Avalanche Betting Trends
Colorado finds themselves in a dog fight for the one of the two Wild Card spots in the West. A six game win streak helped them climb back into contention, and after a disappointing loss to the Ducks, the Avs rebounded with a win against the Blues.
Then came the OT loss against the Pens
The champs are also fighting it out with Minnesota for third place in the Central Division.

Nathan MacKinnon continues to produce at an elite level since returning to Colorado’s lineup.
He’s been held pointless just three times in 15 games since December 31st, and has seven multi-point games to his credit. The goal scoring hasn’t been up to his normal standards, but he picked up his 14th of the year on Tuesday.

Tampa Bay Lightning Betting Trends
When it comes to the Lightning, we’ve seen things play out like this before.
They pace themselves during the regular season and then turn it on when the lights are brightest. They’re 6-3-1 over their last 10 and rounding into form, regardless of how ugly Tuesday and Wednesday were. If Toronto isn’t careful they may lose out on home ice advantage in the first round.

Brayden Point scored his 30th and 31st goals on Tuesday night, which is pretty impressive through 50 games. But get this.
Over his first 19 games, Point scored six goals. In the 31 games since, he’s scored 25 times, with eight goals in his last 10 games.

Steven Stamkos has gone a cold, failing to score in four-straight. Nikita Kucherov had a pair of assists on Tuesday, pushing his point streak to eight games. He’s recorded a point in 17 of his last 19 games.
Avalanche vs Lightning Prediction
When a goal scorer like Stamkos goes scoreless for a stretch, it’s tempting to back him to bust the slump.
But it’s another Tampa super star we have our eyes on.
Avalanche vs Lightning Same Game Parlay
Pick | Odds |
---|---|
Tampa Bay Lightning | -129 |
Nikita Kucherov to score anytime | +155 |
PARLAY ODDS | +265 |
Kucherov continues to produce at an elite level, but has predominantly been a set up man over his streak. He’s got three goals in those eight games though, and dominates Tampa’s high-leverage situations.
Regardless of if he scores, expect Tampa to win. Neither team are great on the road, so home ice advantage is huge here.
The Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning (-130)
