MacKinnon and the Avs Are Rolling 

There’s no stopping the Colorado Avalanche right now. Jared Bednar’s club is 13-0-2 in its past 15 games, outscoring opponents by a 67-28 margin in that span. Nathan MacKinnon is the NHL’s leading scorer since March 10th with 23 points, while Gabriel Landeskog is right behind him with 22 points.

Not only are the Avs dominating offensively, but they’re also becoming one of the top defensive teams in the league. Colorado is allowing just 1.87 goals per game over their past 15 outings and are getting great goaltending from Vezina trophy candidate Philipp Grubauer. The German netminder is 24-7-1 on the season with a .926 save percentage.

The Avalanche beat the Wild 5-4 on Monday to extend their point streak to 15 contests. Colorado really flexed their firepower in a one-sided second period that saw them outshoot Minnesota 20-5. In seven games against the Wild this year, the Avs are 5-1-1, outscoring Minnesota 28-17.

Wild Have Xcelled On Home Ice

Minnesota will have another crack at the top team in the West Division after falling short on Monday. The loss marked Minnesota’s first defeat at Xcel  Energy Center in 12 games dating back to a 5-1 loss to the Avalanche on Jan. 30th. The Wild have typically performed very well at home this year, sporting a 13-4-0 record in their own building.

The Wild haven’t been as hot as the Avalanche, but they’ve been playing some solid hockey of late. Minnesota is 10-4-1 in its past 15 games and are within eight points of the division-leading Avs with a game in hand. One of the big reasons for the team’s success is the goalie tandem of Cam Talbot and Kaapo Kahkonen, who both own a save percentage above .920. Kahkonen is a top contender in the Vezina odds.

The Wild have the 30th ranked power play in the NHL, but they were able to strike twice with the man advantage Monday. The Avalanche outshot the Wild 34-12 at even-strength and are clearly the superior team, but if Minnesota’s power play can keep pace with the Avs’ lethal man advantage unit, they’ll have a shot.

Avalanche vs Wild Best Bet? 

This rivalry has been pretty lopsided of late with the Avalanche winning three straight, but don’t discount the Wild. A full sixty minutes will go a long way in the rematch.

Minnesota should turn in a more complete effort Wednesday, but they’ll have a hard time slowing down this electric Colorado offense. The Avs have scored at least five goals in four different games against the Wild this season and rank first in the league with 3.61 goals scored per game.

The “over” has cashed in six of the last seven games between these two clubs and has a strong chance of hitting again Wednesday. The Wild’s top line featuring rookie sensation Kirill Kaprizov was kept off the scoresheet Monday and should be better in the rematch, while MacKinnon and Landeskog are showing no signs of slowing down for the Avs.
