Bruins Betting Analysis

Boston is seeking its third straight win to wrap up a six-game road trip. The Bruins are coming off a 3-0 shutout win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, in which Linus Ullmark made 31 saves. With the Bruins rotating goalies, Jeremy Swayman is in line for the start on Thursday.

Boston’s biggest strengths this season have been its defense and goaltending. They are only allowing 2.70 goals per contest, which is sixth-best in the NHL. On offense, the team is scoring 3.26 goals per contest, which is 11th in the league.

Boston excels on special teams, boasting the league’s ninth-best power play (23%) and the seventh-best penalty kill (82.4%). David Pastrnak has scored 12 of his team-leading 46 tallies with the man advantage. Charlie Coyle is also enjoying a breakout year with 24 goals and 56 points.

In terms of betting trends, the Bruins are 37-39 on the puck line this season. They are rare underdogs in this game, sporting a 4-5-4 straight-up record when the opposing team is favored this season.

Hurricanes Betting Analysis

Carolina returns to action following a lengthy break that allowed them time to recover. They were last in action on the road against Montreal on Saturday, shutting out the Canadiens 3-0. The win improved Carolina’s record to 8-1-1 over its last 10 games.

Sebastian Aho has been surging for the Canes, notching 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) over his last nine games. He leads a dynamic Carolina offense that is averaging 3.37 goals per game, eighth-best in the NHL. Seth Jarvis has also been a key contributor, chipping in 29 goals and 62 points on the year.

For as good as the Canes have been on offense, they have been even better defensively. The Canes are only allowing 2.59 goals against per contest, which is third-best in the NHL. They also have the league’s top-ranked penalty kill at 85.8%.

Thursday’s projected starting goaltender is Freddie Andersen, who is an outstanding 11-0-1 with a .930 save percentage and 1.88 GAA in 2023-24.

Despite being a top contender in the Stanley Cup odds, the Canes are just 32-43 against the puck line this season. They have a solid 44-24-7 straight-up record when they are favored, however.

Bruins vs Hurricanes Prediction

This has been a fairly even rivalry over the past several years, with the two squads alternating victories over the past eight meetings. If this trend were to continue, that would set the Bruins up for an upset victory on Thursday.

When we break down the advanced metrics, the Canes are clearly the better team. Over the past 10 contests, Rod Brind’Amour’s team has a 57% CF at even strength, while Jim Montgomery’s team has a 47 CF% in that same span.

The Bruins tend to play the Canes tight, however, so our best bet is on the game total. The “under” is 5-0 in the Canes’ last five home games and 6-1-1 in the Bruins’ last eight road games. Given the defensive talent on both rosters, expect another low-scoring chapter in this rivalry.

BOS vs CAR Pick:

  • Under 5.5 Points (-110)
