Surging Yotes Underdogs in Monday NHL Odds

The Coyotes are plus-money underdogs in the Monday NHL odds despite playing their best hockey of the season. Arizona has won four of their past five games entering Monday’s contest. André Tourigny’s team has a 44.8% implied probability of beating the Sens.

Although Arizona has been surging, they are dealing with key injuries. Top defenseman Jakub Chychrun suffered a lower-body injury Saturday against Boston and won’t play Monday. The Coyotes will also be without top-six forward Christian Fischer due to an upper-body injury.

While the Coyotes rank bottom-10 in offense on the year, they’ve turned things around lately. Arizona has exploded for at least five goals in three of their past four contests. Forward Nick Schmaltz has an impressive five goals and nine assists during a five-game point streak.

Defensively, the Yotes are giving up 3.55 goals per game, which is fifth-worst in the league. While Arizona gives up the second-highest number of shots per game, they do have a reliable goalie. Arizona sports bettors can at least get excited about their young goaltender, Karel Vejmelka (.903 SV%, 3.37 GAA) who is Monday’s projected starting NHL goalie.

Senators Betting Value as Home Favorites

An inconsistent Ottawa team is favored at home against the Coyotes in the Monday NHL odds. The Sens have just two victories in their past eight games entering Monday’s contest. D. J. Smith’s team owns an underwhelming 11-17-2 record at Canadian Tire Center.

The Senators have been slightly better than the Coyotes in several major NHL stats categories. Ottawa is scoring 2.24 goals per contest, while allowing 3.24 goals against per contest. The Sens have a seven-point lead on the Coyotes in the NHL standings.

Ottawa isn’t listed as a betting favorite in the NHL odds very often. Monday’s game against Arizona will mark just the eighth time all year the Sens are favored in a game. Ottawa has a 3-4 record as betting favorites in 2021-22, including a 8-5 loss to Arizona as ML favorites on Mar. 5.

The Sens are led offensively by captain Brady Tkachuk, who has 20 goals and 42 points in 55 contests. The team’s other top performer is blueliner Thomas Chabot, who has 33 points. Netminder Anton Forsberg (.916 SV%, 2.83 GAA) is Monday’s projected starting NHL goalie.

Coyotes vs Senators Pick & Prediction

Although these two teams probably won’t be included in the NHL Playoff picture, we still need to make a pick for Coyotes vs Senators. These two teams played only two weeks ago when the Coyotes won by an 8-5 score. Goaltending was dreadful for the Sens, as they outshot the Yotes 46-31 in the game. Matt Murray started that contest, however, and Ottawa will have their better goalie (Forsberg) for the rematch.

Although Arizona has dominated this rivalry, the Sens are set-up nicely for a revenge victory Monday. Chychrun is a massive loss to the one of the shakiest bluelines in the NHL. The 23-year-old leads Arizona in ice time and is the team’s offensive catalyst on the back-end.

Advanced stats also give a clear edge to Ottawa. The Sens have been a decent possession team recently, while the Yotes are still getting dominated despite their surge. Furthermore, Forsberg (2.42 GSAA) has saved more goals above average than Vejmelka (-0.96 GSAA) in 2021-22.

Ottawa’s -150 moneyline price is warranted in the Monday NHL odds and worthy of a wager. Look for the Sens’ top line with Brady Tkachuk to exploit Arizona’s defensive weaknesses and lead the club to victory on home ice.

Pick: Senators ML (-150)
