Dallas Stars Betting Outlook

The Stars have seized control of the series by winning the last two games after dropping the opener in overtime. In Game 3, Dallas put forth a dominant defensive effort, limiting the high-powered Avalanche offense to just one goal. Goaltender Jake Oettinger was stellar once again, stopping 28 of 29 shots.

Rookie forward Luke Stankoven scored his first two playoff goals, including an empty-netter to seal it. Veteran Tyler Seguin also tallied twice, giving him three goals in the last two games. The Stars were outshot 29-23 overall but did a tremendous job clogging up the neutral zone and blocking shots.

In the playoffs, Dallas is averaging 2.80 goals per game (T-7th) while allowing just 2.40 goals against (4th). Their power play has clicked at 29.2% (4th) and their penalty kill is 8th at 75.0%. On the road, the Stars have gone an impressive 6-2.

Colorado Avalanche Betting Outlook

Colorado finds itself trailing in a series for the first time since Game 1 of the opening round after their lackluster effort in Game 3. The Avalanche fell behind 1-0 in the first period and never recovered, mustering only Mikko Rantanen’s goal in the second period.

Their high-octane offense was stymied by the Stars’ structured defensive system. Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar were both held off the scoresheet. Goalie Alexandar Georgiev made 19 saves in the losing effort.

During the playoffs, the Avalanche lead all teams in scoring at 4.50 goals per game. However, they are just 11th defensively, yielding 3.38 goals against. Their power play remains lethal, converting at 33.3% (T-2nd), but the penalty kill is middle of the pack at 73.9% (9th). At home in the postseason, Colorado is 3-2.

Jonathan Drouin Injury Update

The big injury news revolves around Avalanche forward Jonathan Drouin. Coach Jared Bednar said Drouin will be a game-time decision for Game 4 after missing the entire playoffs so far with a lower-body injury suffered in the regular season finale.

The 29-year-old scored 19 goals and 56 points in 79 games this season. If he can play, Drouin would provide a boost to Colorado’s second line and power play unit.

Colorado Avalanche vs Dallas Stars Game 4 Prediction

Monday night is likely to be the most desperate game we’ve seen this Colorado team play in quite some time. The veteran leaders in the dressing room know they can’t afford to lose two straight home games to the Stars, especially considering their opponent’s frustrating defensive style.

The advanced stats paint Colorado as the more dominant team at even strength so far, with the Avs controlling 60.79% of the expected goals compared to 36.84 percent for Dallas. Goaltending has been major factor, with Jake Oettinger (.919 sv%) clearly outplaying Alex Georgiev (.893 sv%).

We’re not betting against a Colorado team with its backs against the wall. This is a veteran Avalanche team that lost just 11 home games all season. Furthermore, they are 6-1 in their last seven games following a home loss of 3+ goals.

The Stars are an enticing road underdog considering their goaltending edge, but this Avalanche team got at least four past Oettinger in all three regular-season meetings. Drouin’s return could help provide the spark MacKinnon’s line needs to get back on track.

Dallas vs Colorado Game 4 Pick:

  • Avalanche ML (-135)
