New York Islanders Getting Into A Rhythm?

While the New York Islanders have slugged their way closer to .500, there are questions as to how they will fare with such a condensed schedule the rest of the season. With 52 games to go in the season, New York has a whopping 18 points to make up just to get into a wildcard spot. The Islanders have a ton of games in hand, but can they finish 15 to 20 games over .500 the rest of the way. That is no easy task. That is especially true for a team that ranks 30th in offense at 2.24 goals per game.

This is the problem with New York. They generated 23 shots. That’s it? Yes, that was it. It does not matter if Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov are both playing like contenders in the Vezina Trophy odds. Despite that mind-numbing frustration offensively, the Islanders have won five straight games versus Philadelphia. It is why the NHL odds favor the Islanders against the Flyers Monday.

Flyers NHL Playoff Odds Plummet From Latest Streak

Another long losing streak has the Philadelphia Flyers’  Stanley Cup odds dipping more. This is a team that started the season at around -1200 to make the playoffs. Philadelphia is now at -1650 odds to miss the playoffs at Barstool and some places are worse. The latest seven-game skid has plunged the Flyers down to four games below .500 and closer to the basement of the Metropolitan Division.

Philadelphia came close again in their last game against the New York Rangers but fell short 3-2. That was the fourth 3-2 loss in their last seven games. This is a Flyers team that just cannot get that goal or prevent a goal in the crucial moments. This is partly why the Flyers’ chances of making the playoffs keeps dropping.

It seems that there are too many of Philadelphia’s best players that are far too negative in the chart above.

Flyers vs Islanders Prediction & Pick

The Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders both are a bit of an enigma but the Islanders are starting to look more like the New York team we saw the past two seasons. They just need a little more offense.

For the Islanders, they need to keep riding Mathew Barzal and Noah Dobson among others.

Back to the Flyers, they just need to find a way to score three goals. They have done so just three times in the previous ten games. Worse, they have been held in by their goaltending while the defense allows 34.9 shots per game (league-worst). This feels like another 3-2 game.

Take the Islanders at -180 via Barstool Sportsbook as well as the under of 5.5 goals on Monday night.

Pick: Islanders ML (-180), Under 5.5 goals (-136)
