  • The Panthers and Maple Leafs series shifts back to Toronto for Game 5 on Friday, May 12th
  • Once again, the Leafs are moneyline favorites for this contest paying out at -176 odds
  • Check out the rest of the Panthers vs Maple Leafs odds for Game, betting lines and our prediction

One game at a time. That’s the company line for the Maple Leafs as they staved off elimination in Game 4 in a defensive-minded 2-1 victory to avoid being swept at the hands of the Florida Panthers.

The best-of-7 series now shifts back to Scotiabank Arena in Toronto for Game 5 on Friday, May 12th with the faceoff scheduled for 7:00 pm ET in a game that can be watched on TNT, CBC and Sportsnet. In net, Joseph Woll showed that he’s more than ready to step up to the plate after stopping 24 of 25 shots in his first playoff start.

Have a look at the Panthers vs Maple Leafs odds for Game 5 below as we also provide some analysis leading to our best bet and picks. This series has definitely displayed some consistent betting trends that we also identify for you in a same-game parlay to watch out for.

Panthers vs Maple Leafs Game 5 Odds

Game Time (ET) Team Puck Line Total Moneyline
Friday, May 12th Florida Panthers +1.5 (-160) O 6.5 (-118) +146
7:00 pm Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5 (+132) U 6.5 (-104) -176

Road teams have a 3-1 record so far in this series. Toronto in particular has been poor at home this postseason, as they’ve won only one of five games as hosts. Nevertheless, the Leafs are still comfy -176 moneyline chalk for Game 5, as they’ve been pegged as favorites for every game in this series.

At those odds, the Leafs have an implied win probability of 63.77% to force a Game 6, while the Cats have a 40.65% probability to defeat Toronto and end this series. As has been the case for every game between these two, the over/under once again is set at 6.5 goals.

Panthers Anxious To Finish Off Leafs

With no pressure on their shoulders, the Panthers have kind of been cruising along in this series. Make no mistake about it though, if Florida doesn’t end this in Game 5, the pressure will be entirely on the Cats.

It’s paramount that they don’t look forward to the next stage of the NHL Playoff Bracket at this point. They only managed 25 shots on net in Game 4, their least amount of shots on goal in six games.

Although much has been made of the lack of scoring from the Leafs’ big-money stars up front, Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov have combined for just a single marker this series. In fact, the Panthers haven’t managed 30 shots on net against the Leafs once in the first four games.

Leafs Put Up Defensive Brick Woll

It appeared the sad story of the finish to the Leafs season had written itself once Ilya Samsonov was deemed unfit to play in Game 4 and the Leafs were forced to start the man who was number three in their goalie depth chart to start the season.

However, Joseph Woll came to the rescue and might give the Leafs the best chance to keep winning in the NHL odds, no matter who is healthy. The 24-year-old rookie was almost perfect in his first postseason start.

Record SV% GAA GSVA
7-2-0 .926 2.24 6.3

Although it’s a small sample Woll has been excellent whenever called upon this season, whether it’s been as an injury replacement at the NHL level or when he was stoning shooters with the Marlies in the AHL.

Part of the game plan for the Leafs in Game 5 seemed to be about defensive awareness and keeping shots to the outside. Woll performed admirably, but you have to give kudos to the Leafs for their overall play in their own end, limiting high-danger chances.

Maple Leafs vs Panthers Prediction

Keeping their slim Stanley Cup odds alive, will the Leafs be able to deliver another strong performance at home, where they’ve had difficulties in the playoffs?

Panthers vs Maple Leafs Game 5 Same-Game Parlay

Pick Odds
Under 6.5 Goals -104
Florida Panthers Puck Line +1.5 -166
Auston Matthews Anytime Goal Scorer +100
Same-Game Parlay Odds +988

You’d think Toronto can win at least one home game against the Panthers. When looking at the best wager and our favorite prediction, I’d stick with Florida keeping this within a goal. Four of their last five have been one-goal games, which is exactly the same case for the Leafs. Also, of Toronto’s five playoff wins, four have come by a single goal.

If you’re like me, you expected plenty of goals this season, but Sergei Bobrovsky has played like the two-time Vezina winner he once was and every game in this series has gone under the betting total. Until these teams show a reason to go in another direction, I’d continue to hammer that trend in the NHL betting odds.

Finally, No. 34 for the Buds remains quiet, not scoring a single goal yet against the Panthers. He only went five straight without a goal once this campaign, way back in October, so at +100, our picks include Auston Matthews to get off the schneid.

Pick: Florida Panthers Puck Line +1.5 (-160)
