Stars Show Up for Dallas

The big guns delivered for the Stars in Game 3 against Vegas. Captain Jamie Benn scored to make it 2-1 in the third period, while Alexander Radulov scored in overtime to propel Dallas to a 3-2 victory. Tyler Seguin and Joe Pavelski both made key plays on the goals.

The Stars also got a monsterous goaltending performance from Anton Khudobin, who made 38 saves on the night and almost single handedly won Dallas the game with some spectacular stops in the third period. Vegas goaltender Robin Lehner, meanwhile, saw his shutout streak end at 171:27 after allowing a goal late in the second period.

The Stars are proving this postseason that they can win games in a variety of ways. They didn’t necessarily control the play in Game 3, but they capitalized on some sloppy defense and made Vegas pay for brutal turnovers.

Knights Are Dominating Offensively

The Knights came up short in Game 3, but they turned in another dominant offensive showing. Vegas was credited with 40 shots on goal, while Dallas only managed 23. The Knights have recorded 35-plus shots on goal in four of their last six games and haven’t been outshot by an opponent since Game 3 against the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round.

Vegas could be getting frustrated considering they’ve now been stymied by both Canucks’ goalie Thatcher Demko and Khudobin, but they are an experienced team that won’t get discouraged by a hot goalie. One mind-boggling stat is that the Golden Knights haven’t won a game this postseason in which they’ve taken 40-plus shots (0-5). They do have the finishers to reverse that trend, though.

It’s a tad concerning that Max Pacioretty, Mark Stone, Jonathan Marchessault, and Reilly Smith are all without a goal in this series, but it hasn’t been due to a lack of effort. Pacioretty, Stone, and Smith had nine shots between them in Game 3, all thwarted by Khudobin.

Will the ‘Under’ Continue To Hit?

One major trend for the Golden Knights of late has been the under hitting. It’s now cashed in six straight Vegas games as they continue to struggle finding twine. It’s also hit in three straight games for Dallas, mainly due to strong defense and goaltending.

Playing the under in this series could soon lose its value. Both Khudobin and Lehner got banged up in Game 3 and there was even some questioning if they would be able to play the overtime period. This compressed schedule and lethal Vegas offense leads me to believe higher-scoring games await.

Bet Vegas for Game 4

This Vegas team is too talented to fall behind 3-1 in the Western Conference Final. They would’ve taken Game 3 if it weren’t for some insane saves by Khudobin and defensive breakdowns on both the Stars’ opening goal and overtime winner.

It won’t be long before this Vegas offense starts converting on its chances. Dallas is proving they can contend with Vegas, but the Golden Knights should get better bounces next game. Bet on a determined Vegas team in Game 4.
