Leafs Betting Outlook

While the Maple Leafs are not playing that badly, they still do not have consistent enough team defense and goaltending.

Right now, Toronto holds the second spot in the Atlantic Division and are 26 games above .500. After winning seven of their last 10, they are 45-19-6 on the season and battling to hold off Tampa Bay and Boston for home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Toronto is a mere few points from clinching a spot in the NHL playoff bracket. They could be officially in the playoffs as soon as this weekend.

Unfortunately for Toronto, the above is what everyone will talk about. What won’t be touched on is the circumstances of the game or that Erik Kallgren was forced out due to an injury. Thankfully, he is okay.

It was a game with two high-octane offenses where last goal was going to win. People forget Toronto did tie the game after falling behind. Toronto seems to play more chaotic games than most.

There is one Hart Trophy candidate here and that simply is Auston Matthews. However, most expected Matthews to score a few goals on Tuesday. Instead, he had three assists in the overtime loss to Florida.

Therefore, the NHL odds range from -130 to -140. Also, the predicted score formula has Toronto winning by an expected score of 3.68 to 3.31.

Stars Betting Outlook

A 7-3 surge has kept the Stars’ Stanley Cup odds around -410. They began 2022 at +104 just to make the postseason. With continued better home play and more respectable road numbers, Dallas has been able to stay right on the playoff bubble.

There will always be a question mark whether Dallas can generate enough consistent offense but right now, things are working for them as they maintain the second wildcard spot.

Dallas is 22-9-1 at home and holds their playoff spot in their hands again. If the top-six can keep scoring around three goals a game, they will make the playoffs behind Jake Oettinger and a defense led by Miro Heiskanen.

Leafs vs Stars Pick

The Leafs easily defeated the Stars in their last meeting on March 15th in Toronto. It may have been Kallgren’s finest hour as he stopped 35 shots in the home shutout. John Tavares had a goal and an assist while Morgan Rielly had two assists. Auston Matthews was suspended for that game.

Now, Dallas has 83 points and with games in hand could move up the playoff hierarchy. At the very least, the Stars could get themselves in a better position or seeding.

At least, Dallas and Toronto are two of the hottest teams in the league coming into this game. Dallas typically plays their style and counter attacks effectively much better at home. They generated 13 high-danger chances even in Toronto on March 15th.

If Toronto can score early, they can force Dallas to press more and make mistakes. That is what happened in the last meeting.

The idea with this game here is to risk the plus-money. Take the Stars with the moneyline especially if it stays around +115. Finally, the under has some value if it stays near even.

Pick: Stars ML (+115)
