Tampa Bay Lightning Looked Ahead To Pittsburgh?

Tampa Bay did not have the best of games on Saturday night in Detroit. Despite the Lightning’s best efforts to keep Detroit in the game, Tampa Bay won 3-0. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 45 saves to get the shutout.

Yes, Tampa Bay mustered less than 20 shots on goal, but rode a Nikita Kucherov tally err coasted. No matter how many opportunities were generated by Detroit, the Lightning never looked in danger. Vasilevskiy remained focus as the Red Wings kept pouring on the scoring chances. Odds to win the Vezina Trophy, for the Russian goalie, are at +1500 for now.

The good news for Tampa Bay is that Pittsburgh allows the fourth-most shots per game in the league at 34.2 per contest. Now, the Lightning scored 3.58 goals per game (4th in the NHL) and feature the league’s second-best power play (25.9%). One trouble stat from Tampa Bay remains penalty minutes taken at 11.4 (28th in the league). That puts the Lightning penalty kill under fire.

Pittsburgh Penguins Firmly On The Bubble

While most experts never expected the Pittsburgh Penguins to be in peril of making the playoffs, here we are. Pittsburgh needed a little luck on Saturday to defeat St. Louis 3-2 in overtime. Bryan Rust’s goal helped give Pittsburgh the much-needed second point.

The problem with Pittsburgh remains consistency. With a Penguins team losing six of their last ten games, every point is critical. A little bit of depth scoring would help too.

The Penguins needed 48 shots to snap a four-game losing streak. Few truly know what to expect Sunday evening with both teams coming off completely opposite efforts. The only similar thing was both teams won.

Again, with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin going up versus Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov, this game has an abundance of star power. This figures to be quite the interesting contest.

Casey DeSmith and Brian Elliott have been okay in goal, but far from spectacular.

Lightning vs Penguins Prediction

Now, the teams come in on opposite ends of a streak. Los Angeles won consecutive games while Anaheim has dropped three straight contests. The only question is this. Can the Kings cover the puckline or just the moneyline tonight?

Lightning vs Penguins Same-Game Parlay Picks

Pick Odds
Pittsburgh Penguins Moneyline EVEN
Over 6.5 Goals -110
PARLAY ODDS  +280

The game looks poised to feature lots of up-and-down scoring chances. Consider that Tampa Bay was not happy with their offensive effort. Again, Pittsburgh loves to generate chances at the expense of allowing transition scoring chances. A back end of a back-to-back carries some risk.

However, Pittsburgh needs this game and the two points as the Penguins try to stay up in the wildcard race. Tampa Bay knows they are almost locked in against Toronto. This could be a fun offensive showcase.

Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins Moneyline (EVEN)
