Team captain Aleksander Barkov was forced to miss Saturday’s date with the Canes with a lower body injury, and his status remains uncertain for Monday’s matchup. Barkov was just finding his groove before getting injured, scoring five goals over his three most recent appearances, and seven total points during a five-game point streak.

While no official announcement has been made, it is looking unlikely that Sergei Bobrovsky will get the call in net on Monday. Bobrovsky has been listed as day-to-day since leaving Thursday’s 5-4 win over Washington with an upper body injury. That opens the door for Spencer Knight to make his fifth start of the season. The 20-year-old has compiled a 4-0-0 record, but could certainly benefit from tight play by the Panthers defence, which has allowed a worrisome average of 33.6 shots on goal over the team’s past five outings.

Much of the credit for the Rangers’ early-season stingy ways must go to goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who is also expected to get the call on Monday night. The talented 25-year-old climbed into the conversation in the Vezina Trophy odds while allowing just 12 total goals over his first seven starts. However, Shesterkin has often been left to fend for himself while facing 31 or more shots on goal in each of his past five outings, and in seven of his nine overall starts this season.
