  • Only three games on the NHL schedule on the fourth day of the 2021-22 NHL season
  • Minnesota Wild are a heavy -155 road favorite against the Anaheim Ducks in the NHL odds
  • The Philadelphia Flyers are a -160 home favorite against the Vancouver Canucks.

Six teams with something to prove are on the schedule for the first Friday of the NHL season. None of the teams are among the top Stanley Cup contenders, but there are no short of great matchups in the NHL odds today. The Philadelphia Flyers could be among the NHL’s most improved teams, as they take on the Vancouver Canucks in their home opener.

They significantly upgraded their defense by adding veterans Ryan Ellis, Rasmus Ristolainen, and Keith Yandle in the offseason, all of whom have been top pairing defensemen at various points in their careers.

The Flyers are the heavy moneyline home favorite of the night in the NHL odds at -160 against the Canucks.

Let’s look at the NHL odds for all three games on Friday, October 15th, 2021.

Goalie NHL Betting Analysis for Canucks vs Flyers

Philadelphia goalie Carter Hart and Vancouver netminder Thatcher Demko are two young goalies in different stages of their career. Both are candidates in the Vezina Trophy odds.

Demko, 25, proved last season that he is going to be Vancouver’s goalie for the foreseeable future. He posted a 2.85 goals-against average and .915 save percentage.  He started this season with a 32-save performance in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Edmonton Oilers but helped the Canucks cover the +1.5 puck line at -140 in the NHL odds on October 13th.

Canucks vs Flyers Recent Results

Date Home-Away Moneyline Puck Line Over/Under
11/25/2019 Philadelphia 2 – Vancouver 1 PHI VAN Under
10/12/2019 Vancouver 3 – Philadelphia 2 VAN VAN Under
2/4/2019 Philadelphia 2 – Vancouver 1 PHI VAN Under
12/15/2018 Vancouver 5 – Philadelphia 1 VAN VAN Under
12/7/2017 Vancouver 1 – Philadelphia 4 PHI PHI Under

Meanwhile, Carter Hart, 23, is coming off an embarrassing 2020-21 season when he registered an atrocious .877 save percentage.

But don’t be fooled by his poor season. Word is Hart looked much more confident in the preseason, and the improved defense should help him regain his status as one of the better young goalies in the game.

Canucks vs Flyers Prediction & Pick

Hart and the defensive newcomers are going to want to show the Flyers fans that this is a much different Flyers team than they showed last season. The NHL betting public do not love the Flyers this season, however, this line presents great value.

Pick: Philadelphia Flyers -1.5 (+160)

Wild vs Ducks NHL Odds & Betting Analysis

If you are betting on this game you are betting against the Ducks as much as you are betting for the Wild. The Minnesota squad did establish itself as one of the NHL teams on the rise.

Russian sensation Kirill Kaprizov makes the Wild dangerous every time he’s on the ice. If he doesn’t score 30 or more goals this season, the Wild will be disappointed.

Wild vs Ducks Recent Results

Date Home-Away Moneyline Puck Line Over/Under
1/18/2021 Anaheim 1 – Minnesota 0 ANA ANA Under
1/20/2021 Anaheim 2 – Minnesota 3 MIN ANA Under
2/18/2021 Anaheim 1 – Minnesota 3 MIN MIN Under
2/20/2021 Anaheim 1 – Minnesota 5 MIN MIN Over
3/22/2021 Minnesota 2 – Anaheim 1 MIN ANA Under

Meanwhile, the Ducks were the NHL’s lowest scoring time last season and there is no reason to believe that is going to change dramatically, although Trevor Zegras is a young center with plenty of promise.

The Ducks are expected to end up as one of the NHL’s bottom three teams.

Wild vs Ducks Best Bet

The Wild beat the Ducks seven out of eight games last season. The Minnesota squad is a team on the rise and the Ducks are a team in need of a rebuild. This should be a lowing scoring affair for the Ducks, and the Wild winning by a handful. Take Wild -1.5 in the NHL odds.

Pick: Minnesota Wild PL -1.5 (+160), Under 5.5 (-120)
