Edmonton Oilers Betting Analysis
Edmonton plays team defense like a game of hot potato. It matters little who the Oilers are playing against. When a team loses like they do, it sends red flags throughout the organization. Relying on Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl the way Edmonton does presents more problems for them. No matter how excellent their special teams are, it is difficult to win in this league when your goaltenders cannot make that one crucial save.

Typically, 50 minutes of every 60-minute game is spent at even strength. It is great to have an excellent power play, but a team’s best players cannot be relied on to this level. Edmonton is not very good for a reason. Their depth and team defense is too often non-existent. The Oilers show up for spurts and then disappear.
Even though Stuart Skinner is much better in goal than Jack Campbell, it still has not been enough. Edmonton is scoring at a lesser rate with Skinner in goal. Meanwhile, Campbell is sporting goals against just over four! Neither goalie is much above .500 because all three phases never seem to be in sync at the same time.
Dallas Stars Betting Analysis
Now, the Dallas Stars, represent a huge difference. They possess a solid balance of defense, offense, and have an excellent goaltender in Jake Oettinger. Dallas resides in first place in the Central Division because players like Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz have older players pitching in like Joe Pavelski, Tyler Seguin, and Jamie Benn. The latter two have resurrected their careers this season.
Just for comparison…
Tyler Seguin – 857 gms
Jamie Benn – 980 gms
Joe Pavelski – 1200 gms
Ryan Suter – 1312 gms https://t.co/6HjLcs4HJk— Brian Giesenschlag (@BGiesenschlag) December 19, 2022
The Stars having this many players with this much NHL experience keeps them on an even keel. With Peter DeBoer as coach and a better defensive system in place, Dallas is thriving where other higher-powered teams, like Edmonton, are not.
Also, it does not hurt to have a goalie like Jake Oettinger. His odds to win the Vezina Trophy lay steady around +1000. Even better for Dallas fans, Oettinger keeps improving as the season goes on. Despite an early injury, he now has 13 wins in 22 starts, two shutouts, and 11 goals saved above average.

Oilers vs Stars Prediction
Now, Dallas enjoys a home respite for the holidays before going out on the road for two games. The Oilers are on the road tonight before heading back for a Friday date with Vancouver in Edmonton.
Oilers vs Stars Same-Game Parlay Picks
Pick | Odds |
---|---|
Dallas Moneyline | -145 |
Under 6.5 Goals | +100 |
PARLAY ODDS | Â +230 |
The risk lies not with the moneyline, but with that under. Chances that it goes up to 7.0 are out there. Keep that in mind.
Despite Edmonton being constantly in games lately with seven combined goals in each, could this game feature a touch more defense than expected? It is quite possible, especially if Skinner starts. This proves to be a fun risk to wager on tonight.
Pick: Edmonton vs Dallas Under 6.5 Goals (+100)
