Could the Washington Capitals be the first team to lose a Stanley Cup series to the Florida Panthers in 26 years?
The last season – the only season in which the Panthers ever won a playoff series was in 1996. That spring, they went all the way to the Stanley Cup final before being swept by the Colorado Avalanche.
There hasn’t been a repeat performance since. Florida is suffering from the longest playoff drought in terms of series won of any NHL franchise.
According to oddsmakers, that situation is about to change. Leading Washington 3-2 in the best-of-seven series, the NHL odds are showing the Florida Panthers as -190 road favorites to win Game 6 and close out the series. If they do succeed, it figures to be close. The Panthers are 1-4 against the puckline in this series.

Florida vs Washington NHL Betting Trends
As a favorite of -160 in the NHL betting lines, the Panthers are given an implied probability of victory of 65.52%. A $10 bet on Florida would bring a payout of $15.30.
In the NHL betting trends, the public doesn’t appear to be completely sold on the Panthers eliminating the Capitals. Just 54% of the bets placed against the puckline are on the Panthers at -1.5. As far as the moneyline splits are concerned, they show 54% of the bets are on the Panthers at -190 odds. Evidently impressed by the eight goals the two teams combined for in Game 5, there’s 84% of the public bets on the Over (6.5).

For all the high-end talent in the Florida lineup, it’s been Carter Verhaeghe who’s sparked the Panthers over the last two games. He’s counted four goals over those two wins. Verhaeghe figured in all five goals during Game 6 with 2-3-5 totals.
That was Florida’s 31st comeback win of the season.

Playoff Bob Showing Up For Panthers
Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky is 7-4 over his career in overtime in the playoffs. Bobrovsky tied for the league lead with a franchise-record 39 wins during the regular season.
Let NO ONE discount the absolutely incredible goaltending being displayed by Sergei Bobrovsky in this series.

He earned wins in 13 consecutive decisions from March 3-April 23.

---|---|---|---|---|
Panthers | Sergei Bobrovsky | 3-2 | .902 | 2.78 |
Capitals | Ilya Samsonov | 1-2 | .923 | 2.68 |
Uncertain netminding has plagued the Capitals all season and it bit them again in Game 5. Ilya Samsonov turned in an erratic performance.
Is this Ilya Samsonov's coming out party? #ALLCAPS

Samsonov stopped 33 of 38 shots. That’s an .868 save percentage. Will the Caps go back to Vitek Vanecek for Game 6?
Panthers vs Capitals Game 6 Prediction
It’s great to be enthralled by how the Florida Panthers roared back from a 3-0 deficit with five unanswered goals to win Game 5 by a 5-3 count. What isn’t so enthralling is how they so easily allowed Washington to assemble that 3-0 lead in a game the Panthers knew they couldn’t afford to lose.

Until they get over the hump and win a series, doubt will remain Florida’s companion. Washington has enough old pros still in the lineup from the club’s 2017-18 Stanley Cup winner. The Capitals own a playoff resume and will be ready to extend this series on home ice.
From the outset, this series has felt like it was going seven games. It still does.
