Edmonton Oilers Continue to Slide in NHL Odds

While the Edmonton Oilers were riding high the first two months of the season. After a December 1st win, they were 16-5-0 on the season and topped the Pacific Division. Since then, the Oilers have gone into a free-fall. They have gone 2-10-2 over their past 14 games to fall all the way down to seventh place in the Pacific.

While the Oilers do have games in hand, they are still six points out of a wildcard spot. Not even Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl can stop this slump. Even, projections are now becoming grave.

Even with 47 games to go, Edmonton still has to hop several teams just to get in the postseason. In their latest six game losing streak, the Oilers have allowed 27 goals as the defense and goaltending continue to crumble. It does not matter who is in net. To think, Mike Smith played like a contender last year for the Vezina Trophy. It is why the NHL odds favor the Panthers against the Oilers on Thursday.

Panthers’ Stanley Cup Odds Keep Shortening

Another solid run has the Florida Panthers’ Stanley Cup odds getting shorter. This is a team that started the season at around +2500 to win the Stanley Cup. Florida is now at +783 odds to win the Stanley Cup just behind Colorado at +667. The latest 8-1-1 run has kept the Panthers near the top of the division with 57 points. They have a better points percentage than the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Florida plays incredible hockey in South Florida and not surprisingly have the league’s best record at home with a 21-3 mark. They average an NHL-high 4.75 goals a contest at the BB&T Center. The funny part is Florida still scores at a clip of 4.33 goals per game on the road.

If Florida was not already a contender, acquiring Chychrun might put them over the top. Florida is that good already!

Panthers vs Oilers Prediction & Pick

The Florida Panthers are not quite as good on the road but still score plenty. The Edmonton Oilers cannot put enough phases of their game to muster a win let alone make a push to get back into the playoff hunt. That being said, I’m rolling with Florida when Panthers vs Oilers goes down.

For the Panthers, they have to keep rolling their top lines led by Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau. If Sergei Bobrovsky can be relatively steady, the Panthers should pull out a win.

As for the Oilers, they just need to find a way to stop the bleeding. Press conference “pissy” attitudes aside, this team needs to find a way to win. Florida is mad after getting blitzed by Calgary 5-1 on Tuesday night.

Take the Panthers at -159 via Barstool Sportsbook and the over of 6.5 goals on Thursday night.

Pick: Panthers ML (-159), Under 6.5 goals (-132)
