The Dallas Stars travel to Boston as a few ex-Bruins face their former team once again this weekend. The game will be played on Saturday, October 16th (7 PM EST) at TD Garden and will be broadcast on NESN and BSSW.

Boston is listed as solid -165 home favorites in the NHL odds to win their season opener against Dallas. Meanwhile, the Stars vs Bruins odds indicate Dallas as +1.5 at -180 in the NHL betting line.

Will the Boston Bruins get the win or can the Dallas Stars pull off another road victory? Let’s take a look at the Stars vs Bruins NHL odds on October 16th.

Could Swayman Sway the NHL Odds?

This answer may be yes as the NHL odds have moved a little bit. They have been between -155 and -170 on the moneyline in favor of the Bruins. The home-ice advantage for Boston plays a big role in this along with how rested they have been. Dallas played a tough game in New York on Thursday night — one they pulled out in overtime. Meanwhile, Boston has had time to do this.

That is an interesting wrinkle given that Boston is paying Linus Ullmark $5 million this upcoming season. Swayman is making a fraction of that amount. However, Swayman is a top contender in the Calder Trophy odds. Now, the backup goaltender has looked good in practice and training camp. Arguably, he deserves an opportunity to start but maybe not this soon. Admittedly, the goaltender went 7-3 in ten games with Boston last season, posted an incredible 1.5 GAA and a .945 save percentage. Also, he had an incredulous nine quality starts in that span.

Even with that tidbit, do not expect any major shifts in the NHL odds at this point.

Dallas Stars NHL Betting Odds & Goaltender Analysis

At first, there were some questions about what their Stanley Cup Odds would look like.  Remember, this is a team that advanced to the Stanley Cup Final two years ago. Last year, they battled all sorts of injuries and just missed out on the playoffs. Had there been an 82 game season, Tyler Seguin and Anton Khudobin could have healed a bit more along with Alexander Radulov.

Dallas has been solid in season openers of late, but they now stand at +2500 to win the Stanley Cup. The problem is which goaltender gets more starts. That is a real issue. While Jake Oettinger has been shipped to the AHL for now, at some point, he has to come back up. Right?

Are the Stars going to bounce back? That is a great question. Again, Braden Holtby is a Stanley Cup-winning goaltender whose best days are likely behind him. Anton Khudobin has done it before for Dallas and can start. Meanwhile, as we said, Oettinger was in the minors. With Holtby, a bit dehydrated during their 3-2 overtime win against the New York Rangers on Thursday, Khudobin likely starts Saturday in Boston. He is a little familiar with that since Khudobin did two stints in Boston over four seasons.

Stars vs Bruins Pick and Prediction

Boston looks reasonable on Saturday night, but NHL betting lines have 43% of the betting percentage on Boston so far (Dallas is 83% on the ML and 88% on the PL). The Bruins still have “the perfection line” and solid depth ,along with Charlie McAvoy seeing top power-play time and ice time at last.

For Boston, the key will be to establish their balance game and grind down Dallas’ top-six. Dallas does not quite have the depth they used to. Neither does Boston. However, the Bruins’ top-six, even without David Krejci, is likely better than the Stars’ version. Go safe and take the Boston moneyline in the NHL odds on October 16th.

Pick: Bruins Moneyline (-165)
