  • The Boston Bruins have emerged as a top 3 contender to win the Stanley Cup
  • At +980, are the Boston Bruins a solid bet?
  • Are there better Stanley Cup contender value picks out there?

The Boston Bruins have not lifted hockey’s holy grail since 2011, but now find themselves right back in the thick of things near the top of the standings with just a handful of games remaining. Since January 28th, they’ve been consistently climbing the Stanley Cup odds board.

A True Up and Down Season in Boston

The Bruins odds really haven’t changed much since the start of the regular season. They entered the year at +1200 and have since altered a little, but that dip on the board certainly doesn’t tell the whole story.

Boston may have come in at +1200, but thanks to their seven losses in December they quickly found themselves looking at +2300 by the New Year. They’ve since had a total resurgence, and have climbed from +2100 on January 28th to the fourth best odds on the board with 12-games remaining.

Grading the Bruins Cup Chances

Boston is definitely in the conversation for the 2019 Stanley Cup, but the road certainly won’t be easy. If Boston was on the West Coast, we’d be singing a different tune. However, seeing how geography is what it is, they’ll have to bring their A-game throughout the playoffs.

The Bruins are 19-4-5 against the West this season.

To further drive that point home, the Bruins are an Eastern Conference best 19-4-5 against the West this season. Against the East, things are a little different.

If the playoffs began today, Boston would take on Toronto. They went 3-1 against the Leafs this season, and may even get inured forward David Pastrnak back for that opening series. In other words, we like their chances. Either way, though, Boston’s road has to intersect with Tampa Bay and/or Washington.

The Bruins are 1-1 against the better seeded Lightning so far, but also sport a mediocre road record this year of 15-12-6. They would surrender home ice against the Caps too, which is an issue since Washington has outscored them 11-3 this season. Are the Bruins still worth a bet? Absolutely, but the numbers do make you think.

Capitals Present a Better Value to Bettors

We like the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals. At 8-2-0 in their last 10, they’re getting hot at the right time too.

At 8-2-0 in their last 10, the Capitals are getting hot at the right time.

For reasons of which we may never know, the Caps are still getting no respect. Their loss could be your gain though, seeing how they are still a +1200 bargain.
