Harris A Strong Presence

There’s a sense that the Democrats will need someone with a strong backbone. A person who isn’t afraid to stand and go toe-to-toe with President Donald Trump and his bully pulpit. Harris definitely exemplified signs of those qualities on the debate stage.

She’s an ex-prosecutor and former attorney general of California. Harris recognizes the value of finding someone’s weak spot and then pouncing on the attack. She did just that to then Democratic front runner Joe Biden over his stand on busing in the 1970s.

Biden Be Slidin’

The same issues that derailed Biden’s 1984 and 1988 Presidential bids are surfacing again.

During the debate, Biden, 76,  displayed an utter lack of preparation. He looked lost and uncertain on the stage.

As front runner in the polls, the rest of the field would be coming after Biden to bring him down a peg or two. He didn’t seem to recognize this fact.

Harris Has Her Own Flaws

Harris can point to a litany of accomplishments. She was California’s first female attorney general, and first black attorney general. She was the second black woman to win a seat in the United States Senate.

Harris’ Senatorial record is not one of accomplishment. Her record on criminal justice is sketchy. She’s vague when answering how she’ll handle health care.

The Tortoise And The Harris?

Remember that old fable about the tortoise and the hare? The Democratic race is beginning to remsemble it.

That one very steadfast, reliable tortoise would be Elizabeth Warren. She’s stayed solid in the odds, right there with the contenders but never ahead. Warren isn’t flashy but stays on message. She talks about the issues.

Weary of the current chaos, Americans might he happy to see someone in the White House who is less about getting attention and more about getting the job done.

At this point,  wagering on Warren wouldn’t be a bad play.
