Bundesliga Matchday 28 brings a massive clash between two top-four sides as Borussia Dortmund locks horns with RB Leipzig at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday. The kick-off is scheduled for 12:30 PM EST.

BVB currently occupies second place and trails league leaders Bayern by six points heading into this encounter, most recently playing to a 1-1 draw with FC Koln prior to the international break on March 20th. Leipzig meanwhile, also took away just a point in their last match against Frankfurt in a scoreless stalemate.

The reverse fixture between the two sides saw the visitors secure a 2-1 victory at Red Bull Arena in November thanks to a second-half winner from Denmark international Yussuf Poulsen. However, Dortmund won four in a row against Leipzig prior to the defeat.

There is no clear favorite here, but Dortmund’s odds are a tad shorter at +145. Their Bundesliga odds also sit at +2000.

The over in goals has been hit in three of the last four clashes between these teams, which means there is tremendous value again.

BVB Unbeatable on Home Soil

Dortmund has dealt with their problems at times this term, but at Signal Iduna, the side is absolutely flawless, posting an 11-0-2 record. Saturday will be their first game on home turf since March 13th when they secured a 1-0 win against Arminia Bielefeld. It will also be their first home match with a capacity crowd in two years, with COVID-19 capacity restrictions being lifted.

Marco Rose’s men are in respectable form right now as well, winning two of their last three, but scoring goals is a problem, netting just three times during that span. Talisman Erling Haaland is in a cold spell for his club, failing to net in three consecutive outings since returning from injury. However, the Norwegian just hammered home three goals in two appearances for his country during the international window, which should give him some much-needed confidence upon his return to Dortmund. However, he faces a race against time to be fit after picking up a minor ankle injury with Norway.

Their Matchday 27 meeting with Koln was hard-fought, but it lacked chances on both ends. Marius Wolf scored an early opener courtesy of a fine Jude Bellingham assist, but the hosts quickly drew level thanks to a lovely finish from Sebastian Andersson. BVB have now drawn three of their last five games and will be hungry to get back to winning ways against a Leipzig side who they’ve enjoyed playing in recent years.

Leipzig Improving On the Road

RB Leipzig is currently in fourth place with 45 points and enjoying a nine-game unbeaten run across all competitions. Their last defeat came way back on February 5th against Bayern, losing a heartbreaker 3-2. Since then, Domenico Tedesco’s side has won six of their previous nine, also drawing three times.

While Die Roten Bullen typically struggles away from home (4-4-5 record), they’ve drastically improved lately, collecting five victories in a row in both league and cup play. Leipzig’s clash with Frankfurt should’ve been a clear three points, but their usually productive attack failed to get it done up top. Tedesco’s group notched 15 shots and seven found the target, but Germany keeper Kevin Trapp was brilliant in between the sticks for Eintracht.

The last time Leipzig faced Dortmund, main man Christopher Nkunku played an integral part, scoring once and supplying another for Poulsen. The Frenchman is in the midst of a fantastic campaign for this team, bagging 15 goals and tallying nine assists. He’ll undoubtedly be a huge factor in the result on Saturday. Health-wise, Poulsen is likely to miss out with an injury, while goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi is expected to be available despite picking up a knock on international duty with Hungary.

Dortmund vs Leipzig Prediction

Haaland’s status for this fixture will mean a lot for the result. He’s netted a brace in each of his last three games against Leipzig, which is evidently a massive deal. If he’s able to play, I like Dortmund. But also, the visitors’ only loss in 2022 was versus Bayern. They’ve completed flipped the script on their season. For now, we’ll lean with Haaland playing, but if he can’t suit up, definitely side with Leipzig. Also, the Over is worth a bet given the trends.

Pick: Dortmund (+145), Over 3.5 Goals (+130)
