Prussians on a Roll Following Shaky Start
Fifth-place finishers on the league table last season with a 16-7-11 win-draw-loss record, the Prussians have taken the next step in the early going of the current campaign. The club has overcome a shaky 1-1-1 start in league play with victories in nine of their past 11 matches, and now sit one point up on second-place RB Leipzig atop the Bundesliga table.

The club’s recent success has not been limited to league play. Borussia MG are also a strong 6-0-1 in their past seven across all competitions, including the UEFA Europa League, where they are poised to advance to the knockout stage by earning a draw in Thursday’s matchup with İstanbul Başakşehir.
Enjoying a Meteoric Rise in the Odds
While Gladbach still have a long way to go to claim their first Bundesliga crown since 1977, their rise in the league futures has been nothing short of spectacular. The club sported lengthy average odds of +9875 in mid-July, and plummeted to a distant +31667 by early October. However, they have been steadily gaining ground ever since, with their win over Bayern lifting them from last week’s position at +1800.

And the Prussians still have the opportunity to build on their strong start before the end of 2019. The club has three upcoming league dates, all against opponents lagging well behind them on the table. The club visits Wolfsburg on Sunday, followed by a visit from 17th-place Paderborn on December 18, and a trip to Berlin to take on freefalling Hertha BSC on December 21. But with 20 matches still remaining on the schedule, and no shortage of challengers on the league table, can Gladbach maintain their spot into the New Year?
Bayern Proving Mortal During Slow Start
Seven-time defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are off to an uncharacteristically slow start, and with last weekend’s loss to Gladbach now find themselves riding their first two-match losing streak in league play since May 2015. Sporting a 7-3-4 record, and with as many defeats as they suffered in all of last season, Bayern have faded in the Bundesliga championship odds.
Listed as lofty -448 favorites as recently as early October, Bayern has steadily lost ground, and come out of their loss to Borussia MG as diminished -200 chalk. However, the club has plenty of time to rebound from their current stalled position in seventh place.

Like Gladbach, Bayern will have opportunity to make up ground in December, with upcoming dates against a struggling Freiburg squad that has posted just one win in four matches, as well as matchups with Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg, whom they own a combined 19-1-0 record against over their past 20 meetings.
Scoring Issues Compounded by Lewandowski Injury
Bayern will also benefit from the eventual return to full health of striker Robert Lewandowski. The Polish star leads the Bundesliga with 16 goals but has been plagued by a groin injury that has contributed to a scoring drought that now sits at three matches. Lewandowski plans to undergo a surgical procedure during the holiday break to repair the injury and should be back to full health in the New Year.

which must be remedied by a minimally invasive procedure. This results in a ten-day break. I'll have that done during the winter break so I will not miss a game." pic.twitter.com/eQmuZD8kZm— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) November 20, 2019
In the meantime, the club remains in desperate need of secondary scoring. Serge Gnabry has yet to enjoy a breakthrough, scoring just four times through 12 appearances and is the only other Bayern player currently with more than three goals on the season.
But greatness tends to find a way. Bayern have remained dominant on the international stage, going undefeated in five UEFA Champions League contests, including a dominating 7-2 win over last season’s finalists Tottenham Hotspur. And while supporters may be in for a wild ride in the second half of the season, Bayern Munich represents exceptional value at -200 in the Bundesliga futures, the shortest odds they have sported in 2019.
Pick: Bayern Munich (-200)
