With just two matchdays left in the EFL Championship, there’s still a lot to play for in the top-six. Brentford will be looking to solidify third place on Saturday when they take on Watford, who have already clinched promotion to the Premier League.

Both sides took away a point in the reverse fixture back in December at Vicarage Road, with Troy Deeney and Ivan Toney scoring from the spot in a 1-1 draw.

Brentford Flying High

The Bees couldn’t be in better form as they prepare to lock horns with Watford. Thomas Frank’s men are unbeaten in 10 straight games, conceding just five times during that span. They’ve also kept six clean sheets since the beginning of March.

On April 27th Brentford secured three points in a 1-0 victory over Rotherham thanks to a first-half winner from midfielder Bryan Mbuemo. The visitors did have a lot of opportunities though and struggled to score again. In fact, the Bees have bagged just three goals in their last four appearances.

Ivan Toney, who leads the Championship with 29 goals, hasn’t found the back of the net in four matches as well. The Englishman has been absolutely clinical all term long though and is certainly due for a goal-filled performance with just two games left in the campaign. Nonetheless, it looks as Toney has the Golden Boot wrapped up.

Brentford’s spot in the playoffs is certainly secured, but staying in third spot would be a best-case scenario. If they can pull this off, Frank’s side would play the sixth-place team. Right now though, the next three placings behind the Bees are a toss-up, with Bournemouth, Swansea, and Barnsley all level on 77 points, which puts them four behind Brentford.

Despite the impressive run as of late though, the Bees have a poor record against the Hornets. They’re winless in 17 fixtures, last beating them in 1977. Needless to say, it’s a long time coming for the hosts.

Watford Heading Back to Premier League

After just one season down in England’s second tier, Watford is heading back up to the Premier League. The ultimate goal has been met, but Xisco Munoz’s squad will have their eyes on winning the Championship title.

It won’t be easy, though. Norwich currently sits five points ahead of the Hornets and they would essentially need to lose their last two games, while Watford has to come out victorious over the next two matchdays.

Nevertheless, it’s been a tremendous campaign. Their backline has been flawless, conceding a league-low 28 goals. Attacking-wise, the side has been very well-rounded, with Ismaila Sarr, Joao Pedro, and Deeney, among others, all playing their part in the final third. However, the latter has been out long-term with an Achilles injury.

Coming into Saturday’s meeting, the Hornets have collected 28  of a possible 33 points in their last 11 matches. Last weekend they also pulled out a 1-0 victory over Millwall thanks to a Sarr penalty kick in the 11th minute.

Despite their great form though, Watford has struggled away from home. Six of their eight defeats have come on the road this term, which is slightly concerning for this Brentford clash.

But, they have a tremendous record against the Bees and that alone should give them loads of confidence as the Hornets look to secure three points.

Brentford vs Watford Prediction

Both of these teams have been playing fine football as of late. Despite Brentford’s rough history against Watford, they have lost just one of their last 20 games on home soil. However, four in a row have ended in draws.

The Hornets meanwhile, haven’t played well in London, winning twice in 21 matches. It’s very hard to go against the dominant side in this tie and for that reason alone, I won’t. There wasn’t much separating these two foes in their last meeting and it’s going to be very similar once again. Also, bank on Toney to end his scoring drought.

Pick: Draw +220, Ivan Toney to Score (+133)
